Shot my first F-Class match 300YD

Some back story:
I've been participating in PRS matches since OCT of 2023. I've been trying to get my dad into PRS but as he's on the older side he never quite got into it. I found out that a local club (SBRGC) has a 300 yard F-Class match. He was interested and so was I, we shot the match yesterday and it was very fun! Way different shooting discipline than PRS and VERY humbling.

Here are pictures of the targets I shot yesterday (60 round match). These were all shot off a wiebad rear bag and ckye-pod (other than the 3rd picture where a local competitor let me try his Lenzi bag, Thanks T!)

I'm definitely looking to shoot this match every month with my dad as he enjoyed it as well (bonding time is the best time)
I think I'm going to continue to shoot the matches with a bipod and rear bag as F-Class is more of a secondary discipline to PRS but my dad really enjoys this sport, and is looking into getting a beginner front rest and rear bag.

Rifle Details:
ARC Coup De Grace Action
1:7 Twist 26" 6GT
105 Hornady BTHP @ 2830 FPS

Great start it aint shooting steel just remember we shoot 600 and 1k. Never heard of a PRS shooter saying Fclass was easy but heard a few say Fclass made them understand wind better.
That's kind of why I wanted to try F-class because I knew it would make me a better wind reader for sure. It is definitely NOT easy even at 300 yards! Looking forward to pushing out to 600, and 1k later in the future.

Welcome to the club don't give up and do your best just remember they are two different things and you will be better at both!

I'm 41, my dad is my shooting partner. We both shoot F/open 600 and 1000. Though he shoots off the bench at 1000 in our club matches now. He now has a long range gun and a mid range gun because he enjoys it so much! I just cannot go shoot as much as he wants to, I have 3 teenagers and still work for a living, lol!

But, for a good beginner set up, hard to go wrong with a Bald Eagle windage rest, protektor rear bag, a 3" bag rider adapter if the stock isn't 3" already and a good 1/8 moa adjustable scope. At 300y, cartridge isn't as big of an issue like at 1K, but any 6mm and up going over 2700fps into small groups will be competitive.

@Fast14riot that's awesome brotha! Yeah I was researching what some beginner set ups are for him, as he's not that internet savy. A lot of people were recommending the bald eagle windage rest!

It's awesome to see others shoot / compete with their parents. Gotta cherish the time we have with them the older we get so do they :(

I should say, my dad is my shooting partner when my mom isn't shooting, too! Pops will be 70 this year and mom is about a year behind.

I shoot off a Cowan rest, which is a step between a Bald Eagle and custom rests, but they are a little more difficult to get ahold of.

My long range gun is probably the max for a budget set up. Tuned 700 action, Kreiger barrel, jewel trigger, Revolution stock, sightron SIII scope, Cowan rest, protektor bag. Built up over time on a slim budget, but realistically $3.5k into my entire set up and shooting high master scores with consistent podium finishes at my club. So don't think only $10K stuff does well. Anything that's repeatable and consistent will help.

Nice to have you out, the match at Southbay is very challenging and the competition is tough. We are a good group of guys who are all HM at both Mid and long range. Keep coming back and asking questions, which we do not mind and you will pick up a lot of good advice. See you next month unless you can make it out Monday to our imprompto mini match.
