My F-Class stocks project for US Nats & Worlds

First, I prefer to make / use my own stuffs ;D -- this is my attempt..... :D

#2. The stock must be no more than 3.6 lbs to make weight for F/TR. My F/TR barrel is in heavy side, approx. 8.6 lbs.

Both stocks are not finished, yet.

The one with alumunium foreend currently weighs approx 1.6 kgs (3.52 lbs), with integral rail on the forearm. It's for my brother (Ernie Bishop). It will make F/O weight without any problem even with additional 3" foreend attachment (not shown in the photos), Etc.
The right hand side of the buttstock is 'brown' (local wood), the left hand side is 'yellow" (maple). Hollow + carbon fiber inside.
I was thinking to make adjustable & removeable buttstock before, but ended up with 'this' one. No much time left!
If I make adjustable cheek-piece it will take more time, so I'll probably make a 'clip on" (raised) cheekpiece if Ernie needs it.
Actually the wooden buttstock can be removed/ removeable (secured by a screw only from the bottom of the hand grip)- but I'll probably epoxy glue it.

The 'conventional' one weights approx. 1.55 kgs (3.4 lbs).
It is made from several layers of lightweight plywood + carbon fiber - for rigidity.
(I was also thinking to make two identical stocks for Ernie & me, but no much time left now).
This one (2nd stock, still in grey epoxy filler) is much quicker & easier to make. I'll use it for the F/TR Nats & Worlds. I'll just paint it.

Both have 1.75" buttstock - I'll make custom rear bags for them.
Both are 'low profile' stocks, and ambidextrous. Ernie is a leftie, I'm right handed. We have the same actions & barrels so we could interchange stocks in future use.

While adjustable cheek piece is not important (for me), adjustable height recoil pad is 'a must', even it adds about 12 oz to the stock! Currently I only have the thick Pachmayr's recoil pads, so be it....probably good for the heavy bullets we will use. ;D

Yes they are rigid & strong if you are wondering about it.
The recoil pad is removeable - to reduce the total length a bit (by approx 2") --- in case they don't fit in a rifle case. (Or.we can store the rifles with barrels removed).
I might add spacer for Ernie. He is a tall guy, lol.

I'll take some pore pics in the next few days. Still plenty of works, only three weeks left!

Suggestions / inputs?

Cheers,
seb.

SEB,

You're really quite the designer. I'm anxious to see the final products, and hear how they perform!

As an aside, look at all those NEOs sitting the background. Eat your hearts out guys :)

Thanks for the comments.

I did make an adjustable cheek piece to the stock with alum forearm today, on Ernie's request. It was cut from the current buttstock. It adds approx. 4 oz to the stock weight. --- It will be difficult to make weight for F/TR in the future, unless a lightweight scope is used (such as a fix power 40X/50X), or a barrel no more than 8.3 lbs such as the heavy palma contour.
But for F/O, his stock can be as heavy as 6 lbs! So no problem at all.

Will apply carbon fiber (wrap around) to the conventional stock tomorrow.
I changed my mind to just paint this stock - I reduced the weight by approx. 10 oz today. It will be no more than 3.4 lbs when finished, will be more stronger anyway.

What kind of rest are you going to use? If you want to use a SEB, I hope you placed your order on time, I hear they have about a 12 month waiting period! ;D

;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi Erik, you know why I don't shoot the Open? --- I don't have a rest myself!!! :o --- Fortunately I still have one nice bipod that I can use... ;D
Besides, I wouldn't feel "ok" to get the Milcun Shield from Gary Costello! --- Too heavy for me also! LOL!
(Just kidding..... poor seb).

E, hopefully the stocks can be finished on Tues or Wed. You'll like 'em. ;) --- I did also add a removeable 3" rear wing attachment so you can either use your 3" bf bag, or the new 1.75". (The stocks will track like a dream, by the way).
I'll use your bipod if it is returned already?
The other one in my hand now will be for a prize so I wouldn't use it in the match.
Please inform me re:your bipod availability at the time - thanks!
Can't wait to try the rifles & meet our gangs....seb.

E,
Do I need to bring / make a shooting mat?
What rifle case(s) would we use? soft / hard?
seb.

Hmmm....I have a MAX and a prototype MAX.
Maybe between the two of them you can find something to use 8) ;)
My Joy-Pod will be here before you are :)
Looking forward to you being here!

Well, finally our stocks are "ready".... I shipped them out today, should be arrived on Thursday/Friday.

It was rush time, not the best I can do. But at least it looks different, lol.
According to my past experience, the stocks would/should track & balance just fine. My fingers crossed. :)

I refuse to use aftermarket bases & rings, this is my attempt....

They weight approx 6.15 oz per set. Base are 25 MOA.

E, tell Chuck that he can light skim bed the action & the front lug if he feels the need of it on your stock. It's a 99 % 'drop in' anyway.
And please do bed mine. I have prepared the alum pillars....seb.
