My BSWN 2019 Lessons

tan·gen·tial
[tanˈjen(t)SHəl]
ADJECTIVE
  1. relating to or along a tangent.
    "a tangential line"
    • diverging from a previous course or line; erratic.

    • hardly touching a matter; peripheral.
I have it now! If your previous shot was a 10 and you are marked a wide 9, you can claim a divergence from a previous line, call it an erratic peripheral and demand it be marked a 10! Everybody shoots cleans!!!

I learned how to "plug" bullet holes shooting smallbore. We had to score our own targets during club matches. Before I bought my own gauges and plugs I would look at a bullet hole and think that's not touching the line. One of the more experienced shooters looked at it and said that's touching, give yourself the higher value. Your shorting yourself! I soon realized that the bullet hole shrinks after the bullet exits the hole. I would advise people who don't believe that to bring a 30 cal or whatever bullet your partner is shooting during a practice match and plug some shots that are just outside the line. You may be surprised when you push the bullet in the hole how much it expands.

Come on Gringo, we be tryin to get scientific.

Tangent......
a straight line or plane that touches a curve or curved surface at a point, but if extended does not cross it at that point.

Figger that one out!!!
Dean, In my current line of retirement I no longer have to use trig. However I do know that I still have some Spotted Cow!

I can't believe all the debate going on in this thread about best edge scoring. Ya'll ought to get jobs in Congress ;). It's either touching the higher scoring ring or it's not. If you can clearly see target black between the edge of the hole and the scoring ring, it's not touching and they get the lower score. If it's so close you can't easily tell, just give the shooter the higher score and get their target back up in the air.

I agree completely. I use what I call the squint rule. Since I don’t take my readers into the pit. If I have to squint to check the hole to line, then they get the higher score and get the target back up.
