My best friend

Here's mine. Rescue dog. Had her now for 3 years. Knows how to open every door in the house, including the slider. I pay dearly if I leave her behind. Growls at the wife when I'm gone.:) I love this dog!

It's funny how some dogs seem to scowl when they see a camera. Martha-Pearl (left) and Dexter attracted quite the crowd in Tractor Supply on this occasion. A couple of the employees there still pester me to bring them in again, except now I'd have to have one dog per cart, and I'm not that talented.

And here's our 'perimeter security team':

They are GREAT dogs. They always led the "charge" at our house.lost the black Rebecca, last summer. Amber, the brown one, chases the neighbors Rotwieler off our property on a regular basis.

October 5th we had to put our 16.5 year old English Springer "Meg" down. It was tough to do and we still miss her. Barlow

If I ever audition for an acting role, all I would have to do to get choked up on cue would be think about a situation like you describe. We've been through it before several times, and will again. Heck, my vision is getting a little blurry right now. :_)

Here is a pic of my girl Ellie. I picked her up as a stray a couple of years ago. She's turned out to be one of the smartest dogs that I've ever had.

Is she a Rhodesian Ridgeback? Beautiful dog and picture. I'd love to see her off leash running full speed. That's one of the reasons we moved to a farm. OTOH, if one of our dogs runs into a porcupine, bear, or coyote while too far away for us to do anything about it, that would be tough to deal with. So far, we've been lucky, and mostly the dog(s) stay in sight, or in our fenced areas for peace of mind mostly.

Clifford. He'll be 5 in March. Got him as a rescue year & a half ago. Smart as a whip. Follows me everywhere. Very rarely on the leash he just stays within 10 yards. Fully house broken when we got him. Took over the couch the first day. LOL Weighs in at 120. Very strong. Mostly Lab but I've been told he has some Cur in him.

We aren't sure exactly what breed she is but I do suspect that there is some Ridgeback somewhere in her lineage. I also see some Boxer in her body shape and mannerisms. That's one of my favorite pics of her. We think she was about one year old when it was taken. Thanks to a very good trainer who helped us get a handle on her behavior she now gets to run off leash everyday. It was a ptretty rough start for us all since she spent her developmental stage living alone as a stray. It was pretty obvious that she had never been a house pet. She still has trust issues with strangers but still continues to improve. I wouldn't trade her for the world at this point.

Dog or cat I must have a pet/buddy/wet nosed companion in my house. My favorite dog was a collie named Trooper, beautiful and smart. My memories of him are still vivid even though he's been gone for 60 years.

:rolleyes:A good dog will give himself to you completely; all his loyalty and love, his entire life. The price he takes for this is a little piece of your soul. I don't know if we ever get that little piece back from them. When they leave us, we somehow learn to live without that piece of ourselves, much as if we had lost a limb or an eye.

I think it is rare to ever find a person who would give themselves as completely as a dog so easily does. Maybe many of us wouldn't even know how to accept that kind of gift, even from our spouse. I actually don't think that we humans are able to give ourselves as completely as a loyal dog does.

It's kind of weird, but I've known plenty of folks who I honestly couldn't say much good about. As humans go they were pretty much "bottom of the barrel". But if I found that they shared their life and their love with a good dog, I could at least like a little bit about them.

I'll add a little to your comments:
If I meet somebody and they don't like my dog or my dog doesn't like them, I usually don't see that person again.;)

Here's another one of the pack all 110 lbs Mr Bojangles . Last 2 Jakester at 3.5 months old .

Remy, the one by himself.
The other 2 are Molly and Maggie L to R.

I can be upset and they'll make me laugh. They do something wrong, all they have to do is give me the look and I cave.
