I went to the range, I took one of my rebuilt M1 Carbines dressed in tactical garb, in 30 Carbine, (18" barrel) a Stag Arms S1 AR M4 clone with a 16" barrel in 5.56 x 45 and my ARC Precision M4E1 with a 16" barrel in 6MM ARC. All sporting military iron sights, all calibrated for 200 yards.
I shot 6 positions 10 shots each, 15, 25, 50, 100, 200 and 300 yards. At 15 through 50 yards standing and scooting, 100 through 300 scoot to position drop and fire. All timed, shots taken in rapid progression, all under 10 seconds per stage.
The 30 Carbine held its own up to and including 100 yards, at 100 yards it did stay inside 6", while the Stag was about 3 1/2" and the Aero at about 2 1/2". The sites and bounce of the Carbine are a challenge.
At 200 the groups spread, the Carbine was about 12", Stag Arms was holding about 9", the Aero held at under 5". The sights are much better than the carbine but the bounce is about the same
At 300 yards the 30 Carbine only has 60% hits on an 18" target 30% in the vital zone. The Stag held a group of a tad over 12" on the 18" target with 70% in the vitals.
The Aero held just under 9" 80" inside the vitals. The A2 front sight and current issue rear sight is in my opinion an improvement over the Stag, the bounce was nearly non-existent and the 2 stage match grade trigger helped.
A bit ago I posted my results out to 650 yardd with slow fire and I was very happy.
I got what I paid for in terms of accuracy and function, now we'll see if it holds up.
Time to calibrate the Aero Precision iron sights to 325 yards, works my loads and mount a 1 x 10 LPVO. Then I can get it all calibrated with my loads.
