Two years ago, after lurking around this site a bunch, I had a 6BR built by one of the 'smith's listed here. Best thing I ever did,gun wise). So here's my story for other lurkers and newbee's. First I bought a very used 700 short action that had been sitting a while at a local gun shop. Then I picked up a HS precision stock at a gun show for a good price. Then off to the 'smith for about 9 months. ,Yes the good ones have a lot of work backed up). I added a Rifle Basix trigger. So for less money than a 40X, I had a top flight rifle.
So comments on the 6BR caliber. It is hard to build a bad load. My worst loads shot 1 inch at 100 and my best were in the .3's. Lapua Brass lasts, seemingly) forever. I load it just as it comes out of the box. At 30 grains per shot, a pound of powder lasts a long time. The 8 twist barrel still shoots light bullets real well. Finally I have a rig accurate enough that I'm learning to read the wind.
My last addition was a Weaver 24X scope. Good news is I've shot some groups in the .2's. Bad news is my rest set up is not as steady as I thought it was. 24X will show every little wiggle and wobble.
So to all the folks that post great info here, thank you. I have a long way to go but it sure is fun getting there. To all you on the edge--go for it.
