Muzzle brake shield

Though more complicated there are things you can do to a baffled brake that decreases the affect of the pressure wave moving to the rear. I worked with Accuracy International and their partner at the time to design one. It worked well.

A word of warning.
TBI's are real in our world. I shot next to a gentleman with a rear facing baffled brake. Even after putting up a plywood barrier to deflect the blast, it did nothing for the pressure wave. It took several days for the brain fog to dissipate.
All the high pressure events add up after time.
Some people are more susceptible to that.

I’m more than happy to give up some brake effectiveness for comfort at this point.

I need to do a back to back with my old 338 brake (419 sidewinder) compared to my buddies brake.
The three reasons I switched are buddy made, no upward bias and hopefully less ground blast to kick up dust.
It’s definitely better at ground blast and concussion at the shooter is less.

Not the most effective brake, but possibly the most effective blast deflector for a brake. Eliminates all side and rear blast effects while not reducing the effectiveness of the brake itself. Also, not cheap. Warden attaches directly to the brake.

I often wondered if it would be a concern with the ATF if you made a rearward facing set of vents brake and then made a shield/covering sort-of like a soda can housing to shroud it. About like what Rand Amateur is showing...?

There’s a few outfits that make something similar.

American Precision Arms makes one called the Cone of Shame. It replaces the self-aligning nut.
Just managing expectations…. Blast deflectors like the Cone of Shame reduce effect to the shooter, but not to others on the line. The two most common “complaints” about range manners I hear are shooters bitching about either being hit by ejected brass or “blasted” by a neighbor’s muzzle brake. Fully enclosing blast deflectors manage the latter without reducing the effectiveness of the brake itself.

I would happily deploy a device which would spare others on the line from the blast effects as long as it will work with a very effective brake. That is the impetus of this thread.
