Muzzle brake shield

I am looking for a highly effective muzzle brake and also looking to avoid/reduce or otherwise mitigate concussion.

Any experience with something like this?

I gave up 22-250 with brake for PDn because of concussion headache at around 75-100 rounds. Looks like this might have solved the problem.

However ain't ever goin' back there after downsizing to 20 VT and 222 suppressed.

Someone here builds a replica of the VAIS brake. I have had them since the mid-1980's when George Vais was in Boise (15 minute drive from my house). I am still buying them to use to this day.

Harrels make a vias style brake, Not as effective as baffle style though.

I've seen soup can deflectors where the brake does do its job with
gasses and a good amount of sound going down range.

Sharps Brothers makes a complete system that looks like a suppressor
but is not.

Hawkins Precision makes the famous ACE brake and the one I have, the Tank ST . The Tank has 90 degree ports and I don’t feel a thing. It’s on a 24 “ barrel, so I’ve had shooters directly next to me say it wasn’t bad since it was out ahead of them on a longer barrel. The braked, short barreled guns can be hell for everyone, though.

I have to make 125 radial brakes shortly for one of my gunsmith customers who installs a lot of brakes. The holes will be angled forward 7 deg for noise mitigation. He swears by them. To me, all brakes are loud period. But I do enjoy making his brakes for him. Lol.

Given Newton's equal and opposite thingy I am not understanding how ports pointing (however slightly) away from the shooter (Forward of orthogonally.) would reduce recoil (The propensity of the rifle to move toward the shooter.). In fact, it would seem to increase (however slightly) recoil. Reducing concussion, I can see that.

Discussing brakes, one time Alan Hall and I were talking about design features. He had done one that angled backwards slightly. He said it worked nice, so he made another that angled slightly more. Then a third that angled more. The fourth model more, and it cut recoil completely. That one ended up too much of a good thing; it frosted his shooting glass and peppered his face almost like a sunburn.
I never figured out if he were pulling my leg or not. He had a wry sense of humor for a Southerner.

Angle of the baffles is definitely a compromise between effectiveness and nastiness.

Though more complicated there are things you can do to a baffled brake that decreases the affect of the pressure wave moving to the rear. I worked with Accuracy International and their partner at the time to design one. It worked well.

A word of warning.
TBI's are real in our world. I shot next to a gentleman with a rear facing baffled brake. Even after putting up a plywood barrier to deflect the blast, it did nothing for the pressure wave. It took several days for the brain fog to dissipate.
All the high pressure events add up after time.

I remember when Doug Koenig started wearing a full face motorcycle helmet to help with the blast, but the governing body outlawed it, saying it was a unfair advantage. It was a dumb rule because Doug could beat you with a slingshot.
