Most Memorable Scopes

My first (and still have) is a leupy 12x with the cpc crosshair. It came on a very early (1950s) browning built with a sako small action, with a very rare flat forend stock in 22-250 . Man I was in heaven, but the p-d,s were not. It shot every 52 and 53 gr bullet. Then I bought a used 700 HB in 22-250 ($200.00) and put a new vx3 6.5x20 ( paid $190.00) on it. Retired the browning to coyote use and slayed truck loads of p-ds with the 700. Still have both, The rem will be going dog shooting again this year. It now sits in a McMillan and wears a 5r broughton barrel. In 22-250 of course.

Greetings,
I started shooting XC / LR shooting at twelve. My first match rifle was, and still is, a Jim Cloward M-70 (push feed), in .30/06. Dad and uncle were both military team shooters.
The El Paso era, Weaver 16x steel tube target scope I was issued is, to this day, one the best looking scopes and ahead of its time.

Take care,
John

A memorable scope to me will - be very clear, have repeatable adjustments, retain zero ... and not cost a small fortune.

Still looking....

I remember shooting woodchucks with my dad. We had a Lyman Super Target spot mounted on the new 40x in 222 Rem. We slayed 100's of chuck's with that combo. I still have the rifle and the scope and it still shoots quarter inch groups or less.

Me, too, with respect to the Lyman Super TargetSpot. Many years ago I had one riding a Winchester Low Wall in .22 K-Hornet, a dandy combination for woodchucks and such, 200 yards and in.

How about the Mitchell series, I have two. They are both the 20X version. One sits on a Winchester 52E, the other on a (Crome molly) Swindlehurst. The clarity of these over other “Unertl” type scopes is very noticeable. I am not bias toward Mitchell’s, l own several Unertl’s.... Yes the Mitchell in the photo is on a 37.

When I was around 20 just moved out on my own and would do just about any kind of work to make a buck, and was just starting to get into guns\shooting.. We used to square bale a lot of hay, an older neighbor stopped by and asked if we had any help to help him bale an afternoon, of course i replied what does it pay? " to the right guy i have an old Leopold scope" was his response... " I'll be there at noon" was my answer... Ended up being a Leopold m8 4x.... Before that I only had your $20 cheap scope... I was amazed to say the least... Was deadly with that on a cheap 17hmr... Now it sits on an old 30-30.. I just pulled it out the other day and thought man 9 hrs of busting my back for a scope.. Would i do it agian?.. In a heart beat..:)

About 20 years ago, my father bought a Zeiss Diavari 3-12x56mm to put on a hunting rifle. At the time we had been using $4-500 scopes on our rifles.

The first time I looked through that scope, I realized I didn't even know what I'd been missing. It was probably the one optic that started me down the path I'm on now.
