Most Accurate AR Style Rifle in .308

OK Guys, I need some opinions. Who is building the most accurate .308 in the AR platform and if anybody knows what kind of accuracy are they getting?

The reviews I have read say DPMS LR-308 is the way to go, someone rated it best shooting most accurate 308 of last year, I forget what magazine... also heard good things about Rob Arms, but i can't say I have ever shot one of those.

Both of my SR 25's shoot .5 and .75 with plain 168 FGM one has the 24 inch match config and the other is the 16in. Love them but don't shoot either very much anymore. The are pretty pricey right now and are not selling to civilians because of Military Prime Contracts.

One thing is certain they do have excellent resale....

I know I will sound dumb but what does SR represent? Sorry man. I am just getting into the auto stuff and don't know much about them yet. Bill

Bill, you know better than to believe what some hack writes up in the magazines. Listen to those who really have the rifles and live with them on a day-to-day basis.

The SR in SR-25 stands for Stoner Rifle.

Knights,KAC) made a nice rifle in the newer model SR-25's. The early ones were plagued with QC and design problems. Lots of FTF's and FTE's along with things like broken bolt catches, etc. It's all a moot point anyway since they are no longer supplying the civilian market, at least until they satisfy their military contracts.

For accuracy I'd recommend the ArmaLite AR-10,T) which is their medium heavy full floated barrel model with flat top,Picatinny rail) upper receiver and two stage match trigger. I've had mine for about five years and really like it. Shoots half minute groups with good handloads. It takes about two hundred rounds to get the insides mated together and functioning right, but that's all part of the game. It's a lot of fun to shoot with virtually no recoil due to a combination of its heavy weight and the gas action. I get a big kick out of keeping the steel gong swinging at 300 yds. rapid fire while using up a 20 rd. magazine full of GI M80 Ball

You got it Billy. I would never listen to that junk. This is the information spot. That is why I am asking questions here. Sounds like you are happy with your AR-10 T. And I would be too, with that kind of accuracy. Where is the best place to start asking about prices? Got any particular dealer in mind? Thanks man. Bill

Bill,
I'm very fortunate to have a local dealer that will get me almost any firearm I might want on a cost plus basis with a very small margin. I hardly go anywhere else any more.

I used to get good deals by going to gunsamerica.com and gunbroker.com and just doing a search for whatever I was interested in. I've got no idea if these sites are still any good, but you might try them. Also, outfits like CDNN and Bachmann often have good deals.

One of the best ways to find a good price would be to get the latest issue of Shotgun News and thumb through the ads. I haven't looked at the SGN for about half a year, but the last time I did they had all kinds of ads for AR-style rifles and other goodies. I've dealt with many of their advertisers in the past and can relate my experiences with them if you come across any that you're interested in.

What load are you using? The best 5 shot group I could ever get was just under an inch with 1 of 4 DPMS bull barrels. Tell everyone at afcom too, although one of the guys claim to have shot a .137 from a bone stock DPMS! LOL He is now the new "internet benchrest champion"

Edit- With custom barrels I have a hard time getting groups that are CONSISTENTLY under 1/2. Every once in a while I'll throw a 3/8 group together. I zig when it zags and luck out.

don't forget about RockRiver they should have there 308 out by now and if it is anything like there 223's they will flat shot I know many of the guys at my club that get .5 MOA with match loads myself included

Yea, I was hoping someone would mention RRA. I have the .223 A4 Varminter with 18" heavy barrel and it shoots really good. Thanks, Bill

RRA makes some of the better .223 AR's on the market. They bought Bushmaster's ill fated .308 design and tooling when Bushmaster couldn't make the thing work. So far, RRA hasn't been too successful with it either. I hope they can get it right, as more competition improves the breed. So far the RRA .308 is an unknown, and as such I'd stay away from it for a while,if it ever sees full production), at least until its got a reputation for working like its supposed to. I've learned through experience not to be an early adopter ;)

Thanks Billy,
I had no clue that RRA was new to the .308 platform in their rifles. I don't plan to buy anything until I can get all the low down on everything out there. I agree it is not wise to jump on everything that comes out right away. It pays to hold off and see how things go. Been there and done that. Costly sometimes. Bill
