Most Accurate 308 Bullet for 100/300 Yards

I know it's ancient history but the 168 Sierra was designed for 300 meter intl. shooting. It reigned supreme until the 6BR came along. Not many people here in the U.S. know how difficult the the 300 meter target is. I would strongly suggest a rifle chambered for 308 Win, 12inch twist, and a load that duplicates 39 grains of 3031 over and the 168 Sierra. The rest will be up to the shooter.

As i wrote above, the 115 Berger is popular and you´ll have to wait a long time to get them.
Can it be used in a Standard Chamber or does it need a shorter Freebore, cause it is a short bullet ?

The 150 should be easier to find, the 155 Range is available almost all the time.

An Option for a Cartridge could be the 30x47 Lapua, sometimes known as 308 Short, 30x47 HBR, ...

There is an Italian Version, called 30x47 GS, which has CIP. CIP is similar to SAAMI, they write the Specs and Blueprints for Cartridges and Chambers.
I know i can be used with 115 Grain Bullets and, from what i read, it is very accurate, almost 30 BR Range.
My Guess is, a 13" or 14" Twist is the best choice up to 155 Grain, for 115 and the like, you could use a slower twist.
BERGER .30 caliber 115 FB TARGET bullets should be hitting our dealers in NOV and DEC 2023!

I´m not sure if i want to jump to one Bullet and then hope it works the way i want it to.
I know what the 30 BR is capable of, if i want to go that route, i just have to get a new barrel and i´m good to go.

Right now, i will stick to 308 or 30x47, with 150-168 Grain Bullets. like Lapua and the SMK.
Maybe i try a 1:14" Twist, short Freebore, so i can try the 125 SMK or similar, too.

Thanks for the input and your help

I once built a 308 with the intention of winning a particular 300 meter "F" class match. I used a 14 twist Hart barrel and shot 150 Sierras. It worked well. It was a 75 shot match and I shot a 750, and did win the match, so mission accomplished. Would have been easier to use a 6BR though! WH

Everybody that posted has given good answers, and most likely the most accurate are in the list. But only your gun can actually tell you what's best. Sounds like if you really want to know , you have your work cut out for you. Good luck!!!! please post your results, I am curious myself.

..

The rifle has just over 1,600 rounds down the tube but the Tesla shows only marginal wear. Most of my barrels are toast long before they get anywhere near that volume.
I didn't know a car was part of your shooting gear other than getting to the range. I think you meant Teslong Charlie :p

As for .308 barrel life, it should be waaay more than 1600 rounds. The Krieger in my Palma gun was still able to shoot 1/2 MOA at a documented 5000 rounds. It was toast shortly after though

Ah-ha-ha, I've been calling my bore scope that (Tesla) ever since I sold my older Lyman. I didn't even realize that I typed that.

I built the .308 so that I'd have one rifle that maintained accuracy, day in & day out, without having to worry about burning that barrel out. So far, so good.

What he ^^^^^^^ said but I would recommend loading about 42 grains of IMR4895 and a 10 or 11 twist will work well also.

This^^^ as far as the load.
If a decent rifle in 308 winchester won't shootgood groups with a 168 SMK over 39 to 40 grains of IMR 3031, especially out to 300 yards, either sell the rifle or put another nut behind the buttplate. It won't be because the load is not any good.

I want to know with which. 30 Cal Bullet you got the highest Accuracy in a 308 for 100/300 Yards.

I'm from Europe and we have a discipline, which is very similar to F Open, but on 100/300m. My Goal is to build a Rifle for both disciplines, 308 for the above 7mm Class and a 284 Win or one of its many Wildcats for Open.

I'm thinking about the 150/155 to 168 Range, but not sure which one to choose.
SIERRA 155 MATCH KING IS A GOOD BULLET
