You could go to the .308 with the SRA 175SMK, Rem brass. CCI BR-2's, and 42.2 gr of IMR-4064. 2.814" OAL if feeding from the mag, else .020" of the lands. I would use a 26" barrel for optimal powder burn, and 1:12" twist should be highly adequate.
My own preference is for the .260 with a 28" 1:8" barrel. The NOS 142 Accubond Long Range with 44gr of H-4350, CCI BR-2, Win 7-08 brass necked down to .260 specs, jumped .010" to .020" to the lands. Adjust charge to find exact node. This rifle has shot strings of consecutive X's at 1000yd.
I am working with the .280 Rem (very slowly, so far). The barrel length is still under consideration, but at least 26", with a 1:9" twist. Remington brass, CCI BR-2, SRA 168SMK jumped .010" to .020", and somewhere around 50-55gr of H-4831SC. This load is an approximation based on work with 120, 140, and 150gr bullets.
The .280 is capable of accuracy a good bit further beyond 1000yd. Note that although this is considered a long action chambering, the empty case will extract and eject in the average short action. For single feeding the S/A will work, except for when a loaded/unfired round must be extracted/ejected. This can still be performed as long as the shooter is willing to trip the bolt release and withdraw the bolt a bit further.
