More NRA intrigue?

I have been a staunch supporter of Friends of the NRA and chairman of our local committee and it really pains me to see the Foundation (which oversees FNRA) to now be accused of fraud, I don't know what to support now and should I resign my chairmanship?
Like you I'm "gun shy" on who to support. The man that was running the "Second Amendment Foundation" was charged with illegal activity also. Many of the 'non-profits' don't have enough safe guards in place to stop any "hanky panky' with the members money. Some provide very high end guided hunting trips for big donors. Some "officials" tag along, expenses paid. There are many ways to misspend contributions or receive gifts 'under the table'.

I just canceled my membership. Since the organization is doing nothing/ anything that I know of, to imprison the thieves, canceling is my only way to fight them. The American Rifleman magazine went down the the drain 40 or 45 years ago. It used to cover shooting news, match's, new equipment and so on. Now it's just a political rag not worth having.

When they show some attempt at a reorganization plan and how it will be implemented I'll donate again. Also some apology to the members.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition now gets the money I sent annually to the crooks.

... I hate that my local club makes me maintain a membership.

Just in case anyone wants to know... an Associate Membership is only $10 a year versus the Regular membership at $45 (or more).

"What is the difference between Regular and Associate Memberships? Associate Membership has all the benefits of Regular Membership except Associate Members do not receive a magazine, cannot participate in NRA elections, and cannot hold office within the NRA."

Yup. My club in Pa. has the same requirement. The only good news is I sent a big check for a lifetime membership 20 years ago, so I’m covered. Even tho they don’t get a penny from me, I still have my lifetime card to show them.
when i joined as a life member i think i paid 200 bucks. that was back when nra was a good organization and american rifleman was worth reading. i havent given any $ to them for many moons. like you though ive got my # if i need it. its a shame what theyve become.

I went to the annual meetings in Atlanta. The NRA is far from dead. Lots of folks were there and many were doing membership upgrades. My wife upgraded hers. They are not what they were pre lawsuit and they are digging themselves out of a horrible mess but it will take time. They need to dump the foundation and get back to driving elections and filing lawsuits. All the other stuff can be back burnered. I am sorry to see the mag go but it’s all that way now. Online articles. Slimmer and a harder hitting organization like the GOA and FPC are now is what they should strive for. BTW I have my tickets for my honey and me to go to the show in Houston!!!!!!

At the end, he was paid $6 million a year. Most of the board was complicit. It was rotten to its core. Despite professing to have changed, many of the same hogs are still at the trough.
That was/is the problem.
wayne lapew didn't commit crimes. (Criminal acts subject to prosecution)
He did get a 4.35 million financial judgement (by Jury) against him, in civil court, and was forced to pay it, but he appealed in 2025, seeking restitution to him, plus interest; that appeal is still underway.
He "stole" the money for himself and his friends by legal means.
His (underline "his") board approved whatever he wanted, and in addition gave him much immunity.
These contracts also make it mostly impossible to recover any more of the appropriated ("Stolen") funds.
The idea that "The NRA shouldn't give in without a fight" is a wishful misunderstanding of the situation.
Any attempts to do so will not recover any money, and only enrich the lawyers on both sides.

I voted for the first time this past election. I voted in preference of candidates that were not prior board members of the NRA. The second batch that I voted for were for those that were recommended and were supposedly not wanting to be part of the hijinks of the previous board. Only time will tell if those new votes and prior members stay clean and do the right thing, or, if they get leaned on by the remainder of the "good old boys club" to join in on the old shits and giggles, living off of the fat of the NRA members' dues payments, etc. We need another purge to get rid of the last members of the old guard that we didn't get the last time, and we need to continue on with that.

Dropped my membership 20 years ago. Only reason I had it was to use a club shooting range that required membership.

I've been a member of some other national level orgs just so I could take part in certain events. To a one the orgs never really do much for the members. They will show how they are 'fighting' all kinds of legislation, but, when all is said and done there are no real results. They all claim to cover a member with liability insurance, but, getting them to actually help in a lawsuit is nearly impossible. About all you can count on is the boards of the org get paid a hefty salary.
