More NRA intrigue?

I believe that's because of the liability insurance that local ranges need, that they get through the NRA.
I suspect that:
a) unless every club member is an NRA member, the NRA can't offer the club discounted insurance, and
b) without the NRA's "group rate discount," liability insurance would be unaffordable for many ranges.
That is where the requirement for NRA membership requirement (for clubs) came from; the liability insurance.

Kittitas George - As for as I know, just one signature. I dropped out of this club because of their attitude concerning money but I don't think anything has changed.

I will say I hate Trump and I hated Biden. It's a wonder how the parties can't come up with an adult to put in office. I'm an old school republican. I registered independent about 10 years ago when the bubs started downhill.
That's okay @charlie b . I was raised a "Kennedy Democrat" and became a Republican as a young soldier in Vietnam , when I saw all the graft and corruption going on over there . About ten years or so ago I became aware that the GOP was nothing more than a watered-down version of the "other" Party that was more concerned with their stock portfolios than doing something for the "Middle Class".
I guess it depends on where one is on the financial ladder , but Trumps policies helped me greatly in his first term , and I'm now a full-fledged member of MAGA , and don't apologize for it ! We all make choices , based on what we feel is best for us individually .

I joined the NRA over thirty years ago and became a life member with their annual 3-year payment plan. I even attended one of their conventions with old Charlie Heston. I used to get a lot of calls asking for donations and it got to the point that I got fed up and called them. A nice lady answered and I told her that I was tired of the calls and mailings. She replied that it wasn't a problem and that she would take me off the "list". I haven't received a call in decades, and I may get one or two mailings a year asking to upgrade. No big deal.
Now that the magazine is going online they will fade away. Let's see how long the quarterly mailings will continue. I figure not long.

IMO the NRA should get back to its original purpose which was to promote and support marksmanship and the competitive shooting sports. Leave the politics to GOA and other pro gun political groups. Without a long-term commitment of getting younger generations involved in shooting and safe gun handling all of the pro or anti gun legislation will become moot. Who will care if one type of firearm is banned or made legal when no one has an interest to own any kind of firearm? The 2nd Amendment will become as forgotten as the 3rd Amendment. I know all of us stay up all night worrying about troops sleeping in our homes without permission.

I don't. I make a choice based on what I think is best for the country. And, yes, I am sick of the corruption in our government, starting at the top.

Sorry to get off topic from the NRA subject. Will bow out here.

I agree with this 100%. I wish all the groups would work together instead of against each other. A pipe dream I know but it would be wonderful if there was one big pot of money and each organization used their portion for a different purpose.

Downeast has got it right! Get back to the original concept of the NRA, improve marksmanship and the shooting sports. When was the last time you saw an article in the "Rifleman" promoting either one? I have some magazines, if I can find them, from the fifties that had three and four page spreads on the national matches at Camp Perry. They have gun reviews, schematics for arms, gunsmithing articles, and so on. The organization was worth belonging to then and the "Rifleman" was worth reading.
