More Moly Help

I have a question for those of you that shoot moly coated bullets. Do they shoot any different than a non coated bullet? Faster or slower? Different point of impact? Just wondering what to expect.

A little back ground. A shooting buddy, a non reloader, has been giving me his brass for quite some time. He has been getting his ammo from a custom reloader, loaded to his specs, in new unfired brass. The guy has disappeared, and my buddy has called in the brass favor and ask me to load a few rounds for him. Well, I don't do that, but what do you say to your buddy? Anyway, we decided that he would come over and help me, with him doing almost everything. When he shows up, the bullets that he bought were moly coated. Thanks

The best way to help him is to take one of his "custom loaded" fully loaded rounds, measure everything, takebthem apart and fully measure all of the components to see if you can come close to duplicating. You may end up trimming necks, turning necks, custom sizing necks ect. Powder, primers all make the witches brew for custom rounds. Moly bullets load the same as naked. There are debates on both sides of the fence about moly. You may not even have all the tools to duplicate his customs..in that event its either a "sorry or I'll do the best I can".

Actually, moly decreases MV for a given load, until adding to the charge to regain the velocity/pressure loss from it.
So the load expected will not be more dangerous due to moly, it would be more conservative.
Yes Micecr has it correct....You may also experience very different results when using moly compared to naked bullets .....at least in the beginning of your shooting session and switching between moly and naked will require quite a few shots to condition the bore back to one or the other.....this is the experience I have had recently with my 30 BR.

I'm running moly for the first time, full time on a 6BRX.
By all comparisons, I'm at about 1/2 gr. more powder to achieve the same velocity as others, assuming all else is the same. The flip side of the coin is that the bbl. cleans up very fast and the first few shots are closer to being on call than with bare bullets. This is an ongoing, long term experiment that I may terminate if I'm seeing any dis-advantages that I can't live with.

Thanks for the replys everyone. I was more concerned with the effect that the moly coated bullets would have on the point of impact and velocity than on what his other load was. I'm pretty sure that he bought the moly coated bullets without noticing that they were moly.
