I hear you, it's not as if I'm looking for one myself. I'm being very cautious as I have seen several problems with accidents related to 8.6 blackout. There have definitely been a few that have had bonded or lead core bullets tearing up the muzzle devices. That would suck with an $800 suppressor. Since I can't hunt with lead core in my state, I load copper monolithic bullets. To be fair, I have only been to the range, I haven't harvested any game with 8.6 blackout yet.

I'm pretty sure if you hear one whirling by your head, it would be pushing a good amount of air...seems to have more impact with subsonic in some cases with the "blender" effect. Brittingham took a cape buffalo with subsonic, but it wasn't as impressive of a kill as the supersonic rounds did. Food for thought.

When it is closer to 6mm gt case…
i am in the middle of forming brass out of Sako 6.5cm brass. It is a very painfull exercise. I guess the hornady 6.5 cm brass would have been a bit softer and maybe less thick to neck turn.
I have to neck turn the neck from .388 down to .364 (my reamer has a neck of .368 if I remember well.

I agree. It's just become the standard for the new generation. Sort of like how everything with a 12mm case head became referred to as "30-06 based".

Shot 40 rounds today.

I had some Barnes TTSX 160g supers that shot pretty well... 2400fps-ish and 2.5 inch group at 200 yards.


The 300g SMK's... I followed the Q load data and never got anything over 550fps. Weird.


We did have a failure that if was on video I'd be a rich man.

Pull trigger.... primer ignites and I hear "hissss" like you laid a steak on a skillet. Quickly stepped back from the rifle... the bullet slowly poked it's head out the end of the barrel and then plopped on the ground a few feet in front of the gun.

I shot mine this morning :
brass formed from Sako 6.5cm brass. Neckturned to .364
18” barrel 1 in 9” twist:
with CFE blk:
300smk: 16grains to get to 1038fps
federal fusion 200: 30 grains to get 2067fps. I have not tried to go higher with that one. I did try a lighter load at 25gr, and the pressure was not high enough to seal the brass in the chamber, and consequently I got some gases back in my face. Make sure you wear eye protection!

With Vita N110:
285 a-max : 14.5 grains got me 1190 fps.
300smk : 14 grains = 1095fps
15 grains = 1140fps
16 grains = 1225 fps
200 gr fusion :
28 gr = 1820
29gr= 2180
30gr= 2284 , that one I got a hard bolt lift , so a bit too hot.

i hope that will get some of you started. Again these loads are working safe in my rifle but may not do so in yours.

my next run will be with Reloader 7 I think.

I would get a fast twist barrel and then build a bolt gun in 338 Federal so I can use 338 Federal brass or just any of the multitude of 308 brass. Then I can roll my own much more affordable ammo in 338 Federal with heavy devastating bullets from sub sonic with a can to full velocity ammo. Thinking about doing this right now! Easy project on a bolt gun.

Paying what they want for 8.6BLK is right up their with other fruitless wastes of money. You can do 338 Federal in any AR10 clone and since you do not need the full powder volume any ways magazine restrictions are not an issue. Do the 1:3 twist for sure.

I absolutely hate and I do mean hate propritary cartridges with a passion.

Where’d you get the barrel blank from? I’ve had a hard time finding the super fast twist 338 blanks.

Surfed around and found some better load data for AA1680... The Q/Faxon data is 10 grains light. Had really low ES/SD in the 16.5-16.8 range.


So I decided to pay for an Omega 36M. Seems like a SUPER versatile suppressor. Shout out to the Silencer shop Kiosk system. I was in and out of the store in 10 minutes. That's for fingerprints, paperwork, photos, etc.

Once silencer shop validates everything looks correct, it'll get submitted via e-form auto-magically. Wait times are as short as ONE DAY right now... so I hope I can shoot this next weekend!
