Molly coated bullets???

5spd,
I believe in moly same as you, but 569 shots in 13.5 hours is still a shot every 1.42 minutes, how do you keep your barrels from melting down? I would imagine your throat would be eroded in just one outing. When shooting both rifles it's not so bad @ 400 shots divided up into two rifles. My wifes uncle has told us about some private dog towns up in Montana like the one your talking about, someday I will take him up on his offers but I will bring numerous rifles, I just wouldn't have the heart to do that to one of my barrels.
Wayne.

I moly only 80 gr. Berger bullets for just one rifle these days - a Savage LRPV .223 shot in competition. I have been cleaning after every other match, or around 100 pills down the pipe, and my accuracy recently dropped off. Cleaned it up good, accuracy still not what I knew possible. Checked my OAL; its ok. Finally - did not want to do it - but "bit the bullet" and pulled the barrel today. I have a chamber scope (that is all it shows). Gee whiz - there was a nice carbon ring around the leade. Knocked it out with JB on a bronze brush turned several times clockwise. Replaced the barrel with go and no go guages, now I gotta take it to the range. Lesson learned - over time, carbon build up can kill accuracy.

Do NOT use brake cleaner that contains Chloroflorocarbons or Chlorine in any form on a Stainless Steel barrel. Chlorine compounds and specifically Chlorine is absolute poison to Stainless Steel alloys! The higher the temperature of the barrel, the more aggressive the action. Bore etching may be the result of careless application and forgetting to clean up! There are chlorine free brake cleaning products available. I use them to clean bore brushes and any other application that requires an aggressive solvent in areas of difficult access .
Just a thought that I wanted to pass on to you. Greg

Wayne,

With the utmost respect, try not to get any on you, especially in your eyes. But you have been handling this material for a long time and know what you are doing. There is no need to worry about you.

For the rest of us, be aware.

LE Hanson
Lawrence,
Thank you for the heads up, yes I have been handling it for over 30 years and like you have had it in my eyes,....NO FUN AT ALL!!! so I never mind a friendly reminder and anyone considering using it needs to be reminded how dangerous it can be, if you get it in your eyes and don't get it flushed out, permanent damage can and probably will occur so please read the label, wear the proper PPE and be prepared in case of a accident. Shooting is a totally safe sport but if safety guide lines are not kept the outcome is usually not good, all aspects of the sport are dangerous from cleaning, reloading, to shooting if common safety values are not met and kept,Please be careful!!, shoot straight and have fun :)
Wayne,
