Model 7 rebarrel question

I am thinking about rebarreling my old 1986 Model 7 KS in 7-08 to a 6-284. I started to do this several years back then my gunsmith died of a sudden illness. As I remember he said he used a Hart #3 contour as that was as large as a contour as the original stock could be opened up to. After measuring the stock and looking at the barrel contours it looks like he was correct. Has anybody rebarreled a Model 7 KS to a larger contour than the original and if so, how large can you go? Thanks. Tom ???

I have rebarreled many Remington model 7 rifles. I always have gone back with a larger diameter barrel. I beleive the last 20" barrel finished out at .630 at the muzzle. Just opened up the barrel channel to accomodate.

I have a Mdl 7 in 6-284 w24" bbl 12 tw .720 @ muzzel. Don't make the SAME mistake I did. Short BBLs and the 6-284 DON'T MIX. Get a 243, 243AI, 6XC or similar you'll be a BUNCH happier. I Love the 6-284 in my long BBLs,(the 24"Mdl 7 was to be a walking rifle) it's 300 FPS SLOWER than in a 29.5" BBL and the ESs will drive you NUTS in the short BBL.
