Midway-currently has free hazmat

You are paying for "FREE" hazmat, they are $239.95 Powder Valley is $219.95 so you be the judge. This is 8 lbs of LT-32

Sure, but powder valley also has a $20 hazmat fee so if midway has something you need and powder valley doesn’t now is the time to get it and not pay the fee.

I was just trying to let people know. If you’re not interested just scroll past it.

Well there is a flip side to this: I just bought 8lb of N150 on a free hazmat deal, and the N150 was marked down to $180. Great deal: perhaps - the jug is dated January 2015.

Yes, I'm not doing a comprehensive comparison, I just went to something I was interested in. Good price on the N150 (if it is not outdated LOL), thanks for adding that.

I also did a price comparison between Powder Valley and Midway and PV comes out the winner even with having to pay for hazmat.

you are paying a hazmat fee whether it is "free" or not

New guy here. There's a 'new' policy that you cannot exceed 50 lbs of hazmat items per hazmat cost. This makes group-buys less appealing.

Also, my state requires sales tax (10%) from online purchases. Most vendors enforce this while a very small number do not. This is THE major deciding factor for me as this tax often exceeds the cost of hazmat and shipping COMBINED.

Midway enforces this tax so the math is easy for me. NO-GO.

I’m not sure what your point is. if one is $20 more base price but free hazmat and the other is $20 less but you have to pay $20 hazmat, it’s the same price to your door. So if it’s something you need, you need to decide what’s more important, sticking to your principle of paying the lowest base price or lowest price to your door? For me, personally I don’t care about base price. When I’m forced to buy online, I look at price to my door with everything included.

I don’t work for midway, I get nothing out of this except trying to be helpful. My mistake.

Next time I’ll just keep it to myself. Jeez.

I think what you did is great and we need to keep sharing these tips. The differing comments on this thread is due to the fact that a "deal" can be quite subjective due to varying state laws and financial situations.

I am not mocking you at all and you did the right thing in posting it here. when I hear the term free healthcare I see a connection

Thanks for the heads up. I was actually waiting to buy 2 8lb jugs of CFE223 and 5000 CCI BR4's. I probably would've missed this if you hadn't posted.

I wish they had Varget....
I wish anyone had Varget.

Thanks for the heads up! Good info!

I need some primers so I checked them out, but for 5000 assorted primers their price was only about $2 bucks under Powder Valley's, so I guess that I will hold off until Powder valley runs a similar promotion.

Sorry to sideline this thread, but I've seen this Varget comment alot. What is it about Varget that is supposedly so magical. I have shot Varget, but honestly I can't find anything it does better than what H4895 will do and it's always in stock. I don't get it?

Count your blessings. In your case, it is same as finding $7 box 22LR that shoots w the 12$ box high priced spread.

Back in the days of long ago... (like 7-8 years ago but we are in a golden age of development).
Varget was one of the first powders developed with very stable temperature sensitivity. Many of us developed loads based on Varget. It works great with .308 - especially with bullets over 165gr. It works great with .223 - especially with bullets over 60gr. It can be loaded in winter and shot pretty much unchanged all year 'round. (Remember - this was 5 B.C. (before Creedmoor)).

Yes, there are other powders out there. Yes, they are better. Yes, we are to lazy to work up a new load. Yes, yes, yes - flame on haters. (putting this here for the inevitable quoting later)

The timing of Varget reaching market coincided with the explosion of long-range shooting. It is what many of us cut our teeth on and what we developed with. When it goes on sale I buy 16-24lbs, always saying "This is the last", and it never is. It is just too easy to work with.

I am; however, slowly starting to switch to CFE-223. It is cheap, always available, and meters like water.

Maybe not the explanation you were looking for, but maybe it helps.

Thanks to the OP.
Never a bad thing to give a heads up to other shooters.

The “free” thing triggers an impulse to hit the go button more times than not. I know I am guilty of it. For the most part we all shop pretty hard unless we run out at the last minute and have to have something, once again guilty here.

The tax thing that has been pushed on us for online stuff plain sucks. By the time I pay shipping and the tax all I have saved is some time by not going to the store and getting it myself.

My major concern with this is we may well see some of our online suppliers see some financial issues in the future, possibly loosing them all together.
