Middle Finger Trigger

I've been trying out PRS style shooting as of late, and tinkering with positions and speed. While dry firing the other day, I tried out pulling the trigger with my middle finger and maintaining my index/thumb grip on the bolt. I was able to smoothly and accurately cycle the bolt using this method. The trigger still felt clean and crisp under my middle finger tip. Does anyone use this method to shoot faster or am I wasting my time. It sure seemed to allow for faster cycling.

I believe I saw a video of a man shooting a Krag rifle very-very fast using a similar method. Anyone familiar?

I shoot this way and believe in my on little head it works better for me, also talked to another shooter today that shoots 600 yard IBS and thinks he does to. Try it a couple matches and see

Junebug shoots like that even off a bench,,,

I shoot my CZ 452 bolt 22 LR 300 yards at steel plate Mad Minute style like you are talking about and after I got used to it it is a lot faster,,

So, in a PRS style situation where lets say you have 2min to fire 10rds, would this even be necessary? I know it's fast, but I can run my Tikka pretty darn fast by gripping the bolt in a normal way. Just thinking of different things to try.

Not even close to necessary.
Highpower/CMP guys shoot 10 rds / 60 seconds with a forced mag change with normal bolt gun technique every weekend.

Still might be the best way for YOU.

You've made me want to go out and try it.

Much depends on which action you’re using (bolt locking angle & length of travel) & your hand size. Lots of highpower shooters used that technique before autoloaders took over. If’n it works for you, practice makes it perfect!

I can grip it this way pretty easy, have relatively large hands. I think some of the shotgun guys do it as point shooting, as in the pointer finger has a natural tendency to point the gun to the target then. I tried it that way and it does seem to point more instinctively that way.

The only trapshooter that I saw do it was Saeed Al Maktoum (of Accurate Reloader). I think he said he learned to do it in England. It helps in controlling or preventing a flinch. When you pull the trigger with the index finger, it is dominant and all the other fingers will follow. By removing the strong index finger from the equation, the middle finger does the work and the weakest 2 fingers follow less aggressively.
Over gripping a stock and forend on a shotgun is bad juju.
