Help with trigger

I own a 6BR with a Savage action and a accu-trigger. I have shot approximately 800 rounds through the gun with no issues. Around 100 rounds ago the trigger started acting funny. I close the bolt and the trigger sets. I put my finger on the trigger and disengage the safety or the blade in the middle of the trigger. Then the trigger clicks and sounds like a misfire but it is actually the trigger decocking. I have to lift the bolt again to recock and then fire. Well last night it started getting worse and doing it more often. Do any of you guys know what may have happened?

OK, I have had that happen. You have your trigger set real light for target shooting. When you start to pull "the blade" in, it is rubbing on the side of the notch it rides in (in the middle of the trigger). That trips the trigger before you get the safety blade pulled all the way in, and it catches the trigger without letting the gun go off. (that's what the blade is supposed to do). You have several options. Set the pull weight higher, stone the blade down to make it thinner, or if it is a target gun only, just take it off.

When you bought your gun you should have gotten two things with it, 1) a users manual and 2) a small tool to adjust the trigger.
Use both now and adjust the trigger to where it no longer drops the safety lever and then put a drop of nail polish on the screw/spring to hold it in place.
Or there could be one other thing causing it- you are putting side ways pressure on it and causing it to trip. With the accu trigger you have to pull straight back or it will trip.

It can be defective or Worn out as people say but I also gave a friend a savage rifle and he couldn’t shoot it four out of 10 shots would do this and I couldn’t retrain him to hold his finger square on the trigger and depress the blade all the way for his style of shooting in the way he learned for many years his finger is coming down at an angle and therefore would not depress the safety or blade completely before contacting the trigger I replaced the trigger with a rifle basix got rid of the blade and everything was fine

Had same issues with both my accutriggers. They are a nice crisp trigger but when getting down to low weight they will cause this problem.

Tried to set to 1 lb pull and found that if I touched the side of the trigger before I put pressure on the safety blade it would release the sear before I got the safety blade pulled back.

1 thing you can do is add small thin shims on each side of the trigger to take out the side play or wiggle that will cause the sear to release before you have your finger pressing the safety blade.

Second thing is replace the trigger assembly with a Timney trigger.

After playing around with the accutrigger for 2 years I replaced both of them with the Timney. Set a 1 lb and never looked back.

Thanks guys. It is not the way I pull the trigger. I double checked several times today and sometimes now when I close the bolt the trigger is rock solid. The trigger and the center portion are locked and will not budge. Also I have shot this rifle for several years with no issues. It just started.
Well now I guess I am going to have to look at getting a new trigger. I do not shoot competitions but I would like a good bang for the buck trigger. I had a friend suggest a rifle basix. Not heard or familiar with it. I have heard about Timmany for some time and really never heard anything bad.

No need to spend the money, adjust the pull weight - test - add drop of nail polish, go shoot.

Well here is the problem. I cant adjust the trigger to where I want it. When I try to set it to around 1LB and then close the bolt the trigger decocks. I am sure if I want to set it much higher like 2 1/2 to 3 lbs the trigger would work and the nail polish would hold it in place. I cant adjust it to 1lb and it even work.

Unless you have a target action the trigger is designed for 1.5 lbs. or more.
It is not safe to go any lower and that is why it keeps tripping, so set it where it belongs and get used to it.
I have a bunch of Savages and learned the hard way, I used to carry the adj. tool with me all the time (as a matter of fact there is one in my console). The replacement triggers may not give you what you want.
After many years of playing with Savages my suggestion is to set it where it belongs and learn to shoot with it, once you are accustom to it, it really isn't a bad system.

Had one w/ similar problem,Check Sear pin, they can back out, had one not hardened enough,it bent from shooting, replaced w/ new sear pin, solved the problem
