MEMBERSHIP ACCURATE SHOOTER

I lurked this site for a couple of years. Practically 80% of what I know about accuracy shooting and definitely reloading comes from this site. When I had the chance I signed up for a Gold membership. If there were a higher membership available I would have signed up for that.
I truly appreciate the low flame attitude of most members (I am a Ruger RPR owner\shooter...) and truly enjoy the knowledge base. $50 bucks doesn't even scratch the amount of money I have saved here and I am happy to have contributed. Rest assured I will continue to do so!

I will be upgrading to Gold when my time to renew. I read the prices of Gun Magazines on the rack of the local super market and they are charging $9.95 for the issues. What we get here are more relevant and unadulterated help! The generosities from this Forum that I have encountered makes me smiles every days that I get to this forum.

Just upgraded to Gold. Now I'm not a competition shooter, but I've been shooting since my Dad took me hunting at 8 years old, so 63 years. Going on 50 years of reloading.

There's considerable BSing around here, but there's also a great knowledge base. Over the last couple years, I've picked up some golden nuggets from the membership, so I figured I'd hang around. I like the way BOSS runs and controls the site.

I hope more people join/upgrade to guarantee the future of this site, it's a keeper.

Thank you for your service, Sir.

I just got canned at the workplace and am in desperation/scramble mode. That said, my gold membership will continue. This site (not just the forum) is priceless.

Sorry to hear that Tommie! I just went through the same thing a couple months ago and start a new job tomorrow. FWIW, at least in my career field, there's a lot of opportunities out there. I was able to land a position making 15% more than I was previously and get an extra week of vacation. They didn't mean to, but my previous employer actually did me a favor and it was a terrible place to work!

Take some time and find the best opportunity which isn't necessarily the first thing that comes along. It sucks to go through but right now with the economy booming it's not a bad time to find another, better opportunity! Make sure and network with friends and acquaintances!

Good luck with the job search!

Shawn

Is it possible to renew a membership with a credit card WITHOUT using PayPal? I just remembered that my Gold status had expired and I would like to do it immediately but I can't bring myself to use PayPal...

Forum Boss: PayPal (and only PayPal) is able to send a computer notice that tells our Forum database to upgrade your membership. Otherwise you can donate by check and, with time, I can upgrade your account manually.

Regarding PayPal, it's more secure than giving your CC information at a restaurant. I learned this myself just last week after I had to replace a credit card because Red Robin's "pay station" network is NOT secure.

I just renewed my Gold Membership again, the second time since the start. Certainly is worth the cost for all the great information I get and for the great group of shooters I have met through the site.

What happened to the drawings for Gold Members? Have I missed something? Can't remember one for a long time now.

I noticed that there were 2,300 views of this post but less than 50 upgrades or renewals. What does this mean?

To me it simply means that the majority of folks are along for the ride. They are willing to allow a few to carry the burden for the many. Somewhat like going to the restaurant, eating a great meal and then keeping you hands in your pocket when the check comes along.

This site is being used by folks from all around the world. The value of information shared here is priceless. What would you do if you woke up tomorrow and found the site was closed because of lack of funds? For some, the first thing they do upon waking is grab a cup of coffee and go to the computer to check for new posts on this site. They are either thirsty for knowledge or need to buy or sell something. Many check periodically during the day for new post or sale items.

The usage on this site is mind boggling. Thousands upon thousands of views per day. You don't get servers and bandwidth for free. Software for this kind of operation is very expensive and complex in nature. I don't know if it is bought outright or rented on a yearly basis, Either way, it must be upgraded and unlike Microsoft, monthly upgrades are expensive. Somewhere, I read that the Boss puts in more than 3,000 hours a year working for us on this site. That's close to 12 hours a day.

Writing these comments is my way of giving this thread a bump back to the top where it belongs.

Most of us who post here are avid gun enthusiast. If you can't afford to spend $50.00 for a gold membership, you might want to think about doing something that incurs less investment so that you have funds to completely pay your way. In my world, there is no free lunch. You don't pay for it then someone else must.

Nick, I renewed my membership when it was due and bought one for a buddy who hadn’t signed up but was always on the site. Your comments are spot on, I will likely “introduce” another free-loader next year....
This site is amazing.

It pains me to see that the Boss has to plead for support from time to time. He has enough on his plate just keeping this site up to date. The posted bulletins are priceless in themselves, time consuming to produce and full of information from countless expert and distinguished shooters. When I can, I will simply send an extra contribution from time to time. PayPal; is so easy to use and every extra dollar counts.

Basically it means that most people are either freeloaders, selfish or cheap. I couldn't agree with you more about all of your sentiments! I have been a Gold member since it was available, I didn't have to upgrade. This is the first time I have ever been a Silver member and it's only because I didn't renew in time and I won't use PayPal, so I have to send a check. I have posted many comments like yours in the past..... In my opinion, shooting is an expensive endeavor at any level, so if you can afford to shoot, you can afford a gold membership. It's that simple. $50.00 a year is nothing!!!! Less than $5.00 a month. Believe it or not, there are active members on this site that have been Gold members and they drop to Silver... I guess the additional $2.50 a month broke their budget.
I also disagree with Silver and gold members getting the same level of use in the classifieds but according to the boss, it's difficult to change that based on the software used.... If you don't pay the same you shouldn't get the same, but I respect the fact that the boss has plenty to do without worrying about that.
I am also in favor of another level. A platinum level has been talked about for a few years now. A Century club has also been talked about for those that have given $100.00. I have suggested a Platinum level or a Century level and possibly giving those in it a shirt or hat which would also act as advertising.....

In my opinion, the boss works too hard on this site, he doesn't make enough money and there are way too many freeloaders lurking here! I hope to meet the boss someday. I'd like to shake his hand, buy him a meal and give him some cash.

If you ever wonder about how many freeloaders are around, post a question and youll get bombarded by PM from experts who have been members for years without ever making a single post or reply. Not enough confidence in getting your advice vetted on the open forum i guess.

Quote from Nick C: Somewhere, I read that the Boss puts in more than 3,000 hours a year working for us on this site. That's close to 12 hours a day.

I do work 3000+ hours a year, but that's not 12 hours a day, because I almost never get a day off. You see, I basically work on the site virtually every single day of the year -- 3000 divided by 365 days is 8.2 hours. The 3000 hours is no exaggeration. I haven't taken an actual vacation since April 2016. It is June 15 and just one day in 2019 (April 23rd) I didn't work on the site at least 4 hours.

It's a Saturday morning and I've already worked 4 hours. I will put in 6 more hours today, and 8 hours tomorrow doing background checks, monitoring Forum threads, writing the Sunday Bulletin stories, and editing the Monday Deals of the Week.

The bottom line is that site needs to generate more revenue from members. I'm nearly 64. If I retire, we need to at least double the current revenue to hire staff to do all the things I do. This site produces more content than an NRA magazine does with a large team of editors and staff writers. We background check every new Forum member. Forum membership has increased 72% in the last four years. That increases the workload.

I don't want to make this about me per se. But the reality is that if I can't keep putting in the 3000 hours per year after age 65, we need to hire staff, and that will take money, a lot more money. For that reason, its vital for Forum members to contribute. Ad revenue alone is NOT enough.
