Medical Marijuana Card Holders/Firearms Purchases -- Nadda

I would like to know what the issue you have with the VA is...I get taken care of by the VA and consider them second to none, so I would like to know what to look for...
This most likely stems from the VA reporting to ATF/NICS that some veterans cannot care for self. If a Vet has someone appointed to care for their finances or home care, then they are reported to NICS for future weapons purchases. It's a new program, but kinda scary.

I'm interested to see what's going to occur when weed is legalized on a federal basis, which I believe will happen soon. jd

When I go in for my check-up, now twice a year, I am always ask if everything is OK, anything you upset about, having any problems, any health issues?
I only discuss health issues as I and the Doctor don't have the time to talk politics, the economy, immigration or terrorist. And I don't want them to perceive me as .................U N S T A B L E.................

My VA doctor asked if I had guns in the house. I asked her if she was enjoying the weather. Both questions were not relevant to my purpose of being there.

Weed as you call it was once again listed on the schedule, and denied the opportunity to be removed. It is an intoxicant and has no use being around firearms, and neither does beer, wine or booze.

Just to clarify here Medical MJ isn't what the "stoners" use, it is modified to remove the THC which gets you high. A great many don't smoke it, they use the oils for pain relief and to help with anxiety among other ailments.
I personally am not a user but there are days when I wish I were. After 8 lumbar fusions with rods and screws and being in need of a knee replacement and a firm refusal to use OPIODS (addicting) I wish there was an alternative, but here in CT. where it is legal with the anti gun culture I will not get the card for fear of loosing my rights.

Exactly right. Also applies to those of us administering HIPAA data, work requiring security clearances or many other sensitive positions.
It also bans you from working

Though my doctor has never asked me whether I own guns, I asked her why some doctors choose to ask that question. Her response was: technically, it isn't any of their business, just as asking if you smoke, is none of their business. It does, however, fall under the umbrella of preventative care. You'll hear that question asked in the VA facilities quite often.

I don't know what happens in Connecticut, but the medical marijuana sold in California is the real stuff and, yes, they smoke it to get high. The current law even allows home cultivation, so that clearly allows smoking whatever they want. The list of "maladies" that justify a prescription is long and some are very subjective, like chronic pain. An honest audit in this state would show the majority of "prescriptions" are ruses so that they can legally get high.

It isn't the anti-gun culture you have to worry about with a MM card, it's the question on form 4473 if you possess the MM card. If you possess the card, you mark yes, which means no gun. If you possess the card and mark no, (lying on the form) you can quickly lose your right to ever again own a gun, not to mention big legal problems with the Federal government.

At least in positions requiring those clearances. There is always the food service or housekeeping industries. ;)
Even without unescorted access (security clearance) in nuke plants, if you are a user/card holder, you're gone. You won't even have the opportunity to fill out the PHQ:D

But you can drink a half a fifth of whiskey every night, and all is good. (No, I don't do either).

I also am one of the "many" lucky vets that go to the VA for care and have had nothing but good care from them. I belong to a support group that meets once a month, (30-40 guys, 4 ladies) and I have never heard any of them complain. There are some pretty, "salty" folks in the group and they wouldn't be afraid to let it all hang out. There are always some guys that will complain about anything and some rightfully. But, we hardly ever hear anything on TV about all the good the VA does...We only hear the bad stuff. I have very good, retired, medical insurance and Medicare so I don't have to go to the VA...I choose to do so. Plus, at the VA I don't pay a single penny for any of my care. They have at times asked about guns...I just say I don't have any.

What you say can and will be used against you either positively of negatively.
