Media Hysteria Over Bolt-Action Rifles

An even scarier... weapon.

The rifle used to assassinate Martin Luther King Jr. was a Remington Model 760 Gamemaster, chambered for .30-06 ammunition. The firearm was bought by James Earl Ray, King's assassin, on March 30, 1968, from a gun dealer in Birmingham, Alabama, just days before the assassination.
Details of the weapon and crime:
  • Weapon: The rifle was a high-powered hunting rifle with a mounted scope.
  • The assassination: A single bullet fired from the rifle struck King at 6:01 p.m. on April 4, 1968, while he stood on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.
  • The evidence: The rifle was found wrapped in a bundle and abandoned on a nearby sidewalk after the shooting. Police found fingerprints on the rifle that matched James Earl Ray.
  • Firearms testing: While early FBI testing was inconclusive on whether the bullet recovered from King's body came from the rifle, later tests confirmed that the cartridge case found in the rifle had been fired by the weapon.
  • Ongoing conspiracy theories: Ray and his legal team later raised conspiracy theories and denied his guilt, but federal investigations dismissed his claims.

It’s why I don’t listen to the news.
They really excel in lack of knowledge concerning any firearm.
Like I said I won’t listen to, but I’m still waiting for them to report a “low powered rifle.”
A friend told me the news reported the bullets were engraved. He also showed me a picture of the rifle. Interesting for sure starting with the clarity (focus) of the picture.
Before assault rifles, high powered rifles and sniper rifles, Brenda Spencer used a Ruger 10/22. Possibly meeting the criteria of a low powered sniper assault rifle. But before the terms were popular.

If there is such a thing as a sniper rifle, this Mauser is certainly not it. A case could be made that an M40 could be a sniper rifle, or at least a sniper's rifle.

I absolutely don't like the narrative that is being created -- once again, that starts putting the emphasis on everything except the MURDERER!!

It should also be noted that this evil little imp is exactly the type of -human?? -- that Charlie Kirk has been trying to change the heart and mind of. Charlie didn't try to use a gun or a club to do it, and truth be told, he has probably been successful with many thousands of confused young souls around the world. jd

So has polio, smallpox, measles, etc. Etc.
I actually just read an article from 2019 that showed statically that polio vaccines killed more in the past 20 years than polio in the wild. Modern medicine, fever reducers and vitamin C, have made these things near non existent in regard to fatalities. Read a book called the moth and the iron lung. They sprayed so much DDT that the polio epidemic in the United States was 100 percent caused by it. Hell farm animals and family pets were getting it. Also, polio, in roughly 95-99 percent of cases is A symptomatic, meaning no symptoms at all. Pharmaceutical along with government propaganda have infected us more than any disease.

Not a great argument, given that the vaccine has to be paid for. The disease transmitted for free.
I'm assuming you're joking. I can't believe anyone would be so callous as to be serious with that response. I had an uncle that had polio. I'd be willing to bet he'd have been willing to pay 10 times the cost of the vaccine as opposed to wearing a built up shoe and braces on both legs.

Waaaayyy back in the seventies, 1970's ;), I bought a commercially sporterized Mauser from a local gun shop.
Mauser 98 - It was pretty nicely done, rebarreled in 30-06, clip grooves removed, after market safety, (scope-able), with a pretty standard for that time non-fancy sporter stock out of light European walnut. Receiver was properly drilled and tapped for two piece Weaver bases, and it was packing a Redfield 2x7 scope. The magazine was stock military, and the extractor was left as a bottom feeder, and would not snap over a single fed round.

That rifle was a great shooter, and made the purported assassination rifle look like a piece of junk. It was stamped with "Golden State Arms - Pasadena California. and it was a shooter.

There are bunches of rifles like that in gun safes around the country, that simply need to be confiscated to prevent them from leaping into action and murdering people. It's guns like that that could turn a good kid bad. -- think of the children. jd

My response was related to the recent virus that can't be named.
I'm not anti-vax. To be clear. But I don't subscribe to social experiments, either.
I've had side effects from medications that were worse that the problem the medication was supposed to correct. Jaded? Yes. I am.

Well...mostly true, but I do have two FN M98s that were chambered in 30-06 for the Colombian military (Model 1950) ... supposedly Colombia's govt wanted to take advantage of cheap surplus 30-06 ammo after WWII...and then there were those Garands we gave to the Koreans only to import them back into the US in the '80s...until Obama decided gunz bad and stopped it...
South Korea bought the Garands/Carbines from us, as opposed to those supplied to many Allies under the MAP (Military Assistance Origram) post WWII. O’B simply blocked their re-importation by entities intending to sell them as surplus USGI firearms like so many businesses used to do. As opposed to Clinton who turned a blind eye to the destruction of so many Garands, and quite Few M14s by Captain Crunch.

Completely unproven theory. Almost assuredly pure bunk! Sounds great though until you look at the facts around it o_O:eek::D

Local twatwaffle in line at our Kroger was mouthing off about that rifle….,“it had an internal hidden magazine!”…..”and others like it have a detachable box magazine!”
Oh, the Horror!
Have you watched the YouTube videos where a guy asks college students simple questions and they don’t know the answers? Kinda like the old Jay Leno street questions. How many dimes in a dollar? Name 3 countries? How many minutes in a 1/4 hour? They fail but they get to vote! We’re doomed!
