MDT aluminum stocks

Has anyone built a system with any of there stocks? I would like to hear your thoughts, pros and cons and see some pics. I understand the concept, no need for bedding but do you feel they are as good as the same type of stock costing 2-3 times more. Thanks for your comments.

I have two builds based on the mdt tac 21 chassis. I love the ergonomics and quality. I ended up getting the actions glued into the chassis like a tube gun.

Here are the two of em

Ron, I built a rig using the MDT LSS chassis with a Tikka T3 .204 factory barreled action. Five shot groups at 100 yards were cloverleafs with Hornady factory ammo. Inside a half-inch all day long at two hundred yards. I liked the ergonomics. A note of caution with the LSS if you're planning to shoot off of barricades; the fore end is short. It doesn't provide solid purchase between some supports and the chassis. I sold this rifle to my varminting buddy. He loves it.

I'm currently building another Tikka, this time in .223 Rem, with the LSS-XL. This fore end is three inches longer than the LSS. I recommend this length if your barrel is 24" or longer. I'll send you a pic when the build is complete.

Thanks! Both barrels are stainless, the black cerakoted one is a 30" 4 groove maclennan barrel, 8 twist chambered in 6.5x47L. The stainless is a 30" bartlein 5r 8 twist chambered in 6.5x284. The 47 is a short action repeater and the 284 is a long action left hand repeater. both barrels are heavy varmint contour. They were both built and spec'd by the best smiths in Canada (imho)

Both actions are savage (I know) but once set up ( a little $$, but not too bad)I don't think you can beat em. I run rifle basix triggers, after market bolts and glades armoury bolt handles. Both actions are glued into the chassis, and the barrels are spun on properly, no barrel nut. The grips are ergo grips. And I'm running a Mercury recoil reducer inside the prs stock.

Also, that funny lookin bipod, is made by star shooter precision. Awesome bipod!!

Check out their hs3 chassis as well.

At least they brought humour to somebody. Lol. I'm not sure how to make it right.

Ryan,

Savage, Rem, Ruger, or Tikka, if they bring enough precision to isolate the shooter's skill as the tunable variable, they're performing as needed until additional precision makes a difference to the shooter's scoring.

IMO, good factory gear provides greater accessibility to enjoy the shooting sports. Not everyone can afford a $5k custom rifle -- and they don't need to possess one to have fun and improve their shooting.

I'm waiting on my Glades Armory bolt handle. How much difference in perceived recoil with the mercury insert? Did the PRS require modification to install it?

*Are* they that much cheaper? I'm seeing an LSS for ~$400 or a LSS-XL or HS3 for ~$500... then add a decent pistol grip and butt stock (assuming you're going with something more sophisticated than a mil-spec 6-position AR carbine stock) and the price is right in there with various models from XLR, KRG or McRee.

I think the PRS is worth the extra price, u also have the option of mounting a monopod on it, or mdt's 3 way adjustable butt plate.

Yeah, but it's not $5k... ;) I'm evaluating the PRS vs the MBA-3 for this new build.

Rock solid is another option
