McCoy shotgun ?

Ok it hurts me a tiny bit to post this but I’m fishing. I purchased a really cheap semi auto McCoy even after reading a few bad reviews. I’ve wasted more money on less and this Turkish shotgun may turn out to be a real turd but i want it to shoot ! I shoot a lot of clays in the back yard and buy the cheapest 7-1/2 dove loads but it will not shoot the light stuff. Just will not cycle enough to eject the hull. Now I’ve searched for info on the shotgun and there’s just not much out there on it especially on reversing piston for lighter loads. The piston has an arrow labeled light load but the dang arrow points in both directions !! So I’m not sure if it’s reversible or not or if it was set for light load initially. It has one ring and I’ve lubed it and stored with bolt open to help decrease spring tension. I have not shot it since i flipped piston around only because im not sure this should be done ! I’m not going to shoot high brass just to get it to cycle reliably ! I’m posting just in case someone else purchased this cheap shotgun and is familiar with getting it to cycle light dove loads. I have only shot a couple boxes of shells through it so it may improve on its on after break in ? But really didnt want to shoot with flipping piston without asking. McCoy website is useless as far as info ! Appreciate any info you can offer.

In talking with a CZ rep at the Harrisburg Outdoors Show about my CZ 720. He told me to shoot about 100 rounds of a fairly stout loading to help break it in to shoot lighter loads.
Springs & action essentially needs broken in.

You outta see the hulls from the turkey loads fly!!! Lol

I did figure out yesterday that reversing gas piston - that’s for heavy load shells. Barely moved bolt with light load. I reversed piston again and greased ring and shot a few more light loads. May have helped ? I will stick some heavier loads in it - i have some not high brass but higher fps stuff and see what happens. May talk my son into shooting a box of 3” through it. It feels and points well so i hope it breaks in. What would happen if i put some moly b in it ? Would it hurt anything ??

Snipe i am actually shotgun poor as well as rifle poor. It’s been a while since i purchased a firearm and i had a weak moment with dove season coming and i actually ordered two shotguns - the McCoy in 12 and a 28g in Hatfield for a buddy. His 28g cycles fine and looks pretty good ( expected lots of dents in stock and places on metal) but both guns looked pretty dang good. Thing is his 28g i can’t hit broad side of barn with it !! He actually hit one clay out of 20 with it. Barrel looks straight but i would have swore his shells had no shot in them . With my weak moment i think y’all should cut me a lil slack because if i get this McCoy shooting ok then it may be my truck gun. I swear i have less than 400 in both excluding ffl fee and gas to go pick up. The shotguns may turn out to be fine - well the 28g I’m not sure about. May have to put up a big piece of cardboard and see where it patterns but short of that i think they will be worth what i paid.

When you pattern your friends 28ga, make sure you put an aiming point on the cardboard.

Pattern only tells you the spread.
Aiming point will tell you where it's shooting.

I'm just messin with you, I actually have a Turkish shotgun, It's one of the higher end ones and it's pretty darn good to tell you the truth.

The Turkish 1911's are a real bargain that people are just starting to realize, Some folks have won some CMP matches with Stock Tisas pistols.

Edit to add:

My Canik pistol is bad to the bone! Another Turkish gun.

Spray the action and piston with Rem lube. Hose it down. If you can get to the gas holes, clean them or open them up minimally.

Troupe do you mean drill a tiny bit larger ?? Or just make sure hole is clean ? I hated to ask about this shotgun on forum but i kinda like it. Feels good to me when i throw it up and i want it to perform. Can’t tell you how much crap I’ve received from my dad and my brother for buying and even my bud i talked into the 28g. He said waste of money ! Maybe so but his 28g with 2 boxes never missed a beat - just didn’t hit much with it !! I have a large cardboard box that i will use for pattern or mark aiming point to check. Will go from there. I did spray internals with rem oil on both the 12 and 28 and plan on shooting a few more boxes of shells. Will waste a couple boxes of heavier loads in the 12g. I priced some 3” in 12g and just can’t waste the duck loads i have so will pick up some 1300 fps stuff and save the duck loads. I used to reload AA hulls years ago and have powder and shot. May adjust the mec for more powder and use it. Thanks for the replies

I did read the post here about the barrel bending and never realized it was a thing. I’m wondering if pattern or poa ( if off ) could be corrected with screw-in choke ?? This is way out of my league here but I’m Not even sure the 28g needs anything but we sure couldn’t hit a clay with the shotgun even jumping on it as soon as it left the atlas thrower. Will post my findings after checking on the 28g.

One other problem i have noticed . With the 12g McCoy if with bolt open and you drop a shell in to chamber - when you hit button to close bolt - the lever that shell rest on and raises shell up to chamber - it falls short or doesn’t raise shell high enough for bolt to chamber shell. Shell hits lower half of chamber and gets stuck. Almost like spring is too weak to get it high enough to slide into hole of chamber. When shooting it cycles and chambers new round with heavy load with no problems. This only happens when dropping shell in by hand and closing bolt if that makes sense. Not ready to give up on it yet ! But had to mention because I’m not ready to admit we bought junk !

So, load the first one in the tube and rack the action.
Then you can put your other 2 in.

Choke shouldn't change the point of aim.
Pattern, yes.

I can do that ! And i think that will work. It’s easy to push shells into tube and not get your thumb bit - not browning easy but definitely not 1100 eat your thumb ! I store with bolt open but will do some cycling of action. I really think this shotgun will be fine with a lil use. I haven’t checked point of aim on either one but will do next day I’m off. What would happen if i put a little moly inside the action ?
