Shotgun Barrel Bending to Change POI

Yeah, I suspect the same.:( Shotgun is a Ithica/SKB, one of the "Made in Japan" guns. Pretty nice rig, except for it's so --- glossy. Kind of a seventies thing I guess. I should at least drop a note to Briley and see what I'm looking at to fix. jd

Way back when, Jess did a lot of things with choke tubes. One of them was to cut the tube with what he called an eccentric cut to adjust the direction. That was to get the barrel to pattern where you want it to.

I read a lot of tests of O/U and SxS shotguns back in the 70's and 80's, in the shotgun magazines. This was usually done on new products being introduced. The writers would pattern each barrel and report the POI for them. On an O/U, it was not uncommon for the bottom barrel to shoot to a little different POI than the top.
On a SxS it was a dukes mixture of POI. I think that the manufacturers goal was to regulate SxS barrels to have the same POI at 40 yards.

I think this would be called about a thousand dollar gun. It's a pretty sweet little package -- EXCEPT

The POI issue and-
at 28 inches, the barrels are longer than I like for a quail gun, and-
with modified and full chokes, it's a little tighter than I want, and-
the stock is too high in the comb for my ruggedly handsome cheekbones.

It was given to me by a dear departed friend, so I'm kind of reluctant to let it go, but I may get over that. jd

Back in the 70's, I had a 20 gauge model 200E with 26" barrels. I got to shoot quail in South Texas and was absolutely deadly and a pleasure to carry. About the same time, I had traded for a 12 gauge model 200. I didn't keep the 12 ga long. It killed on one end and crippled on the other.

Yeah, mine is also a 200E, but with 28" bbl. 26 or even 24 would be mobetta. The tubes are very thin and lightweight, so I don't know if screw-in chokes would be an option. Seems like they are also chrome lined or sum-such, and I don't know how that would effect choke work. I'd love to have a straight wristed stock with about a half inch more drop.

This is one of those projects that is back burner for now, but I did enjoy getting it out to look at. jd
