Maybe A bit Off Topic

Everyone likes to save money so I thought I would post this.
FIRST - I have no interest or affiliation with Amazon or Ooma.
NOW - After getting fed up with the phone company because of increasing prices and crappy service, I decided to try one of the Internet phone services. Did lot of research and talked to a lot of people along the way. Most companies provide Internet/Phone/TV offered in various bundle packages. From talking with numerous people it seems these after a while become crazy expensive, ( After your "X" number of months discount time period expires ).

About 5 months ago I purchased the Ooma system from Amazon. It has performed flawlessly since I had it. The equipment has a one time cost of $89.

After hookup , which is a simple matter of connecting it to your router and logging in to the website with the info that comes with the unit. After that you pay only the local communication taxes in your area, mine is $4.80 per month. Some people pay less than $2.00.
You know you were not going avoid the taxes.
The Premier service ( $9.99 month or $99 Year ) adds a bunch of features as well.
The Bluetooth adapter, extra $10 allows to to pair your cell phone to the service which gives full cell phone signal within range of the device ( about 75 feet ) wherever you live.

It includes unlimited nationwide long distance, Overseas calling at a discount rate, Caller ID, Call Blocking by name or number, Answering Machine and best of all , TELEMARKETER BLOCKING. I have not received a telemarketer call in 5 months. It has no call limit as do some, at least that I have seen.

NOW, the bad: If you loose internet service you loose phone service. Also the ability to call 911. Internet loss does not affect Cell phone operation regardless.

The link to the Ooma equipment is : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I4XMEYA/?tag=accuratescom-20

AGAIN I HAVE NO AFFILIATION WITH EITHER AMAZON OR Ooma. THIS IS SIMPLY INFORMATION..

I cut the cord on the land line a few years back and went with Ooma. I had a lot of problems because of unreliable internet as I live in the country. I now have cellular alarm and use Facebook messenger for video calls (it's free) and regular cell for everything else. I tried magic jack and google voice also but same results, need better internet for VOIP to work

Yea, reliable internet is a must. Have cable internet so it works great for me.

I've had Cable One for about nineteen years now. Zero issues with the package of Cable, Internet, and landline phone.

Rule #2: if it ain't broke, you can't fix it. Just enjoy it until you break it, then have someone who knows what he is doing fix it...

Many places have superior cable service than Virginia... :(

Ya still need a way to connect Ooma's modem-thingy, which in most places will cost you. I abandoned land-line phone service (even ripped out old wires in the place I moved to late in 2013) for cellular. Bigger issues is exorbitant 'fees' charged for cable where I am; package is for internet + television.

Wife watches while I seldom do yet I pay half the TV portion of the bill, my share roughly what I pay alone for my cellular (smartphone) service.

I think could do without cable's internet now that Verizon's got their act together where I am but I have a hunch she'd object to my not wanting to share it with her....

If you have cable internet it just plugs into the exit port of your modem and then that cable plugs into the out port of the Ooma.
There is also a trick, disconnect the phone line from the box on the outside house and plug the Ooma phone out line into any phone jack. Presto, Ooma feeds the whole house through that wiring with your existing phones. That's what I did instead of buying their phones.
