Match chamber

I have a barrel that was chambered with a PT&G match reamer and never put on a gun . Problem - I'm thinking about putting it on a gun . And just for the heck of it I just tried to put a 22 LR Norma T22 in the chamber . And with my thumb I could not push it into the chamber . Is that normal for a match chamber ?? Are match chambers that tight ?

Yes, it's typical for match chambers to be tight, where the bullet will have some engraving before it's fired. It's like with Shaw match barrels where they warn about closing and removing unfired cartridges.

I found that Winchester 22 LR cartridges are larger in diameter and won't use any of them in my match gun as they are just don't go into battery well and if forced to do so, they'll really be stuck.

I can't even get the bullet to the rifling it's that tight .
. . . maybe try a different cartridge, like one from Tenex, Lapua or SK's to see if they're also that tight???

Did you clean the chamber well before inserting the cartridge?

You might try scrubbing the chamber with IOSSO or J&B compound and see if you'll get some improvement???

You say the barrel wasn’t installed. Depending on gun, the chamber may not be completed till the barrel is completely installed so final head space could be established.

If not that then also, not all match chambers are the same….

Polishing the SHARP Rifling edges w/ J B's slathered on a Patch, over a Bronze Brush, 6-7 gentle "Strokes",.. One way, on my Bentz chambered, Green Mtn. Barrel, made,.. ALL the difference, for Extraction of, Live Rounds that previously,.. got Stuck !

I also tried Eley Ultra Same thing . I'm new to Rimfire My last rimfire was 60 years ago and it was a junk gun . Guess I didn't expect match chamber to be that tight .

What gun were you planning on putting this match barrel? Is the tenon cut to a specific action?

Match chamber could mean many things or designed for specific ammo. My chamber is based off Lapua center x but I can shoot a variety of ammo. Yes the bullet gets engraved in the lands.
