If anyone knows if ar15 and similar high capacity rifle's are prohibited in Maryland ? I googled it but it's a little hard to get solid yes/no answers. Any good information from someone in the know is appreciated. Is it like kalyfornya ?

What about that H-Bar stuff ? Heavy barrel only ? Do you know anything about that nonsense ?It's hard to get solid answers because the laws are written in such a stupid fashion. Ar's have always been legal to own, purchase and possess in the state of Maryland. There have been some different requirements to purchase a new or used one from an FFL.
One example is that at one time if you had a 20" barreled rifle {or longer} the gun was treated like any other long gun and you only had to do the 4477. Shorter barrels or just a lower receiver had to be registered as what Maryland calls a "regulated firearm", which is to say it is treated like a handgun and requires state police registration and approval also. That has changed in the last several years. With the advent of the HQL {Handgun Qualification License} requirement to purchase a handgun {in addition to state police reg/approval} you are no longer required to do the full blown state police registration for an AR, but I was told you have to go online and fill out a form to receive a number. Take the state police number to your FFL dealer and he sells you the receiver. There is so much confusion in the way the communist liberal democRATS do things in this state that the last five lowers I purchased were all done differently over a period of 2 years.
As far as magazines go, not too much to worry about...that law is so ridiculous that even our local sheriff stated in public that "there is no way to enforce this law, so I wont even try"....they passed a law that says you cannot purchase or possess mags that hold more than ten rounds after a certain date. Not too many mags have the manufactured date on them. You cant buy them in Maryland, but a quick hop over to Virginia and you can buy all the mags you want and bring them home. Again, how would law enforcement know when you bought a mag with no date?? It's not illegal to buy them elsewhere, just not in Md. Can it get more retarded????
In short, I have lived here most of my life and was always able to purchase and own all the Ar's I wanted. The problem with Md. is that between the outskirts of D.C. and Baltimore slam chocked full of communist liberal idiots if every normal person voted three times we cant outnumber them, so it's hard to get decent effective laws passed and stupid ones repealed or amended.
Edit: in their latest brainstorm the lawmakers are trying to pass one that says all sales of all guns, dealer or private, must go thru an FFL. This is just about the stupidest thing I have heard yet....how do they expect this to ever be enforced?????
I say, "laws are written in a stupid fashion"...but honestly, it's almost like they are written just to put on a show.

Msinc, without even asking you anything, I know you understand why I moved from Bowie in the Peoples Republic of MD to South Central PA 17 years ago.![]()
Looks like a lot of bad info in this link. Md. could care less what shape or "profile" your barrel is. They do not "favor" heavy or straight barrels. The so called "H-Bar" rule dates back to the 80's and the first gun ban, it hung in there though until about 6 or 8 years ago.
Also, believe it or not, Md. is one of the easiest "may issue" states to get a concealed carry permit. You just have to follow the rules when you apply and act happy jumping thru the hoops and don't say anything stupid when you do the interview. The permit is issued by the Maryland State Police and cops want to be the only kid on the playground with a big stick, they don't like it when they are not.
Heavy barrel is cash and carry. If you o
I’m pretty sure if you want to buy an AR in Md after 2013 it must be an HBar. Not to be disrespectful, but as a Md subject, I disagree with most of your post.
I too, disagree with most of your post. Heavy barrel is required on 5.56/.223 AR rifles in Maryland and it is very difficult to acquire a carry permit even when you meet the unconstitutional requirements set forth by the idiots that write the laws. Most that are issued permits, also get a list of restrictions.Looks like a lot of bad info in this link. Md. could care less what shape or "profile" your barrel is.
