SAVAGE PRECISION ACTION MEASUREMENTS NEEDED

Hi, I'm new to this site, so any errors are first time mistakes.

I am in need of what should seem relatively simple answers to simple questions but I can't seem to get anyone knowledgeable on the phone at Savage. I have tried 3 times and end up speaking with tech reps that cannot provide the info needed and can't refer me to anyone who does know (guess it's top secret). Soo... Does anyone out there on this forum know what the actual outside diameter of the action that is used on the Model 12 Long Range Precision Varminter (REPEATER) is, specifically the 6BR chambering? Also what the whole spacing would be center to center and if it is similar or different and in what way from their Savage Precision Target Short Action, 3 screw single shot gen 3. 4.400 action screw spacing. Obviously I realize the middle screw does not exist, but I heard or read somewhere that the forward hole is possibly .125" forward of the single shot pattern??? Any solid numbers out there would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks

The next time I take my Target Action apart to switch barrels I can make these measurements for you. However, if you go to SavageShooters - http://savageshooters.com/SavageForum/, I bet some one gives you the answer in a matter of hours. Post it on the savage bolt-action centerfire section. You can probably just search because I have seen this discussed before on that site.

Luck, Tim

The O.D. of the receiver is 1.350" The action screw spacing is 4.400 with the center screw smack in the middle@ 2.200". Depending on WHEN your particular action is, or was made will affect the hole spacing. Future production of the LRPV's and the target actions will have a new DIFFERENT screw spacing like on the Palma and BR rifles, which is 3.440"
The rear screw was moved forward, and the forward screw was moved rearward, the center screw is still in the same location. This was done to eliminate the partial cut away pillar in the rear, and to gain more threads in the front screw by moving out of the barrel recess area, and into the thicker part of the receiver.
There is no set date on this change, it will happen when Savage runs out of it's inventory of the 4.400" stocks. Something to look forward to in 2010.
