March glass vs Nightforce and Leupold

Question, where are all the Valdadascopes on the equipment lists from late 2015? Is this a relatively new scope?

Let's put it this way. Percentage wise there a very small amount. But here are some highlights of wins of 2015. These are all registered matches.

Won Riverbend Gun club April
Won Unaka Tennessee championship
Won the East west at St. Louis
Won the South Eastern Regionals
Won Mississippi river valley St. Louis
Won Riverbend again last month
I've picked up 7 HALL OF FAME points with the Valdada
Steve Lee picked up 5 HOF POINTS
Billy Stevens pick 1 HOF POINT
They have won multiple score matches. Best score so far 24x 250. Just check with Jackie Schidmt.

Two Members of the USA TEAM used them at the worlds last fall. The winning team had Billy Stevens shooting a Valdada.

Shooting the Shamrock. Don Hardeman topped the field with a Valdada TODAY.

Is 36x sufficient for 300yard in your opinion?

I've shot the 36 Valdada in competition out to a 1000 yards. I've also shot it in 600 yard competitions. Memphis a couple of weeks ago was the latest.

I'd say it all depends on the shooters eyes. If you still have decent eyesight it's not a problem. If your eyes are giving you trouble then you may need more power.

Which reticle are you using on the Valdata? I'm curious about that floating dot and how that works, versus a fine crosshair, especially for score shooting.

I was shooting the Crosshair w Dot. I also have two floating dots. Personally I think the floating dot would be great for score. Just put the dot on top of the dot and shoot.

I'm sure you know this, but very seldom do you ever get the luxury of holding on the dot in score shooting. You're holding off to varying degrees with just about every shot. I like to set up for a dead on hold during the early warm-up and seldom touch the scope, except between yardages beyond that first target of the match. I've certainly seen times when I'd click into it, but you have to remember any changes you've made and not revert back to your previous hold-offs during a switch. Much for this reason, many score shooters never touch the scope's windage turret during a match.

I do prefer a small floating dot reticle, but I think it's just that..personal preference.

OK, is the dot 1/8"? I have a Sightron 10-50 with 1/8 dot and it's getting more difficult to "aim small" - I shoot a 6BR and the dot is more than 50% of my bullet hole, and I'm giving up quite a bit to those dang 30BRs!

Yes it's an 1/8 dot. Most can't see anything much smaller

Love to have ya! Come down when you can. It's a good bunch of shooters having fun. I've been told that a local range, in Auburn, may try to hold a match or two again this year. I'll believe it when I see it, but am holding out hope. They stay so busy with their jobs that free weekends to hold a match are few and far between. Gallatin is only an hour drive for me..so it's still very close.--Mike

I am in soon in the market for a scope for LV group shooting. 58yrs old and getting crappy eyes. I have an old Leupold 36x i just got back from being serviced that was acting up a bit...I will keep it for a back up. I think I may be best served with going north of 36x in anticipation of declining vision. Looking at the 40 & 50 March and was wondering if anyone that has used the 50 has found it at a disadvantage with mirage over the 40 or are they pretty close......Thank You

I had an early March 50 power and it was darker than a 36 power Weaver. They need to be brighter, for me to revisit them…. jim

The VX-6 leupolds seem to be very good glass. Compared side by side with a NF NXS the VX6 has a bigger fired of view and was brighter glass. Great scopes in my opinion.

To clarify you must be talking about just the "early" scope that you had and not about March glass in general which is renowned in the industry for incredible clarity.

I am speaking from personal experience of these scopes having bought 13 of them from Kelblys before we became distributors for them! Won a lot of gold medals at 1000 yards at US National Championships and won several National Championships at long range. In fact two of the four guys (myself included) used a March scope on our rifles when we set the US National Record at 800, 900 and 1000 four man team record. We still have that record. If the glass on my March scopes was bad those scopes would have been "chucked" for something better, but I have yet to find anything.

Perhaps, you can send that old scope in for servicing. If it is less than 5 years old it is still under warranty, but I suspect yours will be older than that.

I researched this and what I found is Japanese law "recommends" small ( i.e. -low sales volume) Japanese companies who manufacture in Japan to offer a maximum warranty of 5 years. What I also am seeing is a true "hold zero" scope may have a finite life-based on feedback from serious competitors (those who shoot a lot) experiences since March's introduction.

People get hung up on warranty as if they expect the unit to fail if an item has a "short" warranty in comparison to others.

We sell machines, industrial machines, that are used on US Navy ships (certainly don't want that to fail while at sea), and others used by companies like Boeing, Ford Motor Company etc. Our machines only have a one year warranty and yet we ship tens of thousands of pounds of machines per day! What good would a Lifetime warranty be if the unit failed while at sea?

Before someone says "a lifetime warranty means they are built better" I would say, you are as naïve as a baby in diapers. I believe Schmidt & Bender is also 5 years. That does not make them an inferior scope and there are tens of thousands of their scopes in use by Military and Police forces around the world.

In all the March scopes I have owned I have only had to send one back to the factory, and that was back in 2009, for a sticky turret. That was actually my first March scope. It did not discourage me from buying more (thank goodness) and I have never had one fail since!

Shiraz, Yes it was a March 50 power and i got it from Kelbly. Sitting on the same bench looking at the same target on the same day it was noticeable darker than the Weaver 36 power scope. I didn't say the glass was bad just dark. It was sent back to the factory for impact shift and it was fixed but it still was darker than most other 50's i looked through…..jim

Well Shiraz. I know I tout March scopes a lot, and I bash Leupold Comps for being inferior, but once again at a 200 yard score match in Augusta, ME today, one of the guys that I shoot with, (Parker Hills) his Leupold Comp failed him in the warm-up and he was done for the day. That makes about 8 times that I've seen a Leup fail at a match. Yes they have a great warranty, but I'd rather use a March even if they had no warranty whatsoever than a Leup with a lifetime warranty.
