We hope everyone has come through Irma with minimal damages and all safe. We know many are still without power and some simple necessities, for that, we pray relief will come soon.
We had hoped to have started with our improvements, but the weather kept that from happening now pushing our start date to September 25th with re-opening Oct 12, again weather permitting. With the already soaked grounds, the company doing the work felt the ground needed more time to dry out, if not it would only create more concerns and slow the process down, thus the delay in starting.
So, why not open this weekend you say? Well, as everyone prepared for Irma’s arrival, our staff (4) prepared the range by moving all the chairs, benches, matts, blocks, nets, brass buckets, garbage cans, furniture, signs, equipment, golf cards, take down steel targets and target stands and anything else that could fly way and make it secured. The office staff secured the office computers, equipment, ammo and other items should the worse occur. After the storm cleared, the staff returned to assess the conditions and see what needed to be done. There were previously scheduled reservations for Law Enforcement training, and reservations for product testing and marketing for companies which still needed to be taken care of. One more weekend before we start allows our staff to slow down, regroup, catch a breath and keep moving forward on much needed work to be done.
We have an opportunity to get some serious projects done that will be much more appreciated by the members. We are asking for volunteers to come out and help get the range ready for reopening! This will give the staff much needed help! First up is cleaning up the mainline and back ranges of brass and casings. We have TONS of brass that needs to be cleaned up from the mainline and sorted. We will be ordering 118 Railroad ties that need to be drilled and 179 target stands mounted with 540+ lag bolts and rebar to be cut to secure the railroad ties as the dirt work moves along. Once we get supplies we will need carpenters to help build 12 benches for both area 51 and the mainline. We need rifle racks to be repaired or new ones built.
We need electricians to repair some outlets that have pulled loose on the line and repair a box in the back at the cowboy bays, we have a structure that needs a support beam replaced, power washing of the clubhouse, we have slat board and trim to put up in the clubhouse, the desk to move and would like new flooring if possible. We need painters to help paint red and yellow safety lines on the concrete, maybe paint new numbers on the benches. The list goes on!
We are going to have volunteer work days Wednesdays and Saturdays during the hours on 7am and 1pm starting Saturday 9/23 until Wednesday 10/11. If you can help, please email the club at angie.weldon@manateegunclub.com We will provide beverages and snacks. Please bring any tools which would be helpful as well as a hat, work gloves, etc.
This a great opportunity to get this range ready for a really great reopening that the members and guests will truly appreciate it!
