MAJOR Copper Fouling - Why?

Well, I had no idea barrel makers had such a poor view of the Tubb products! I had seen a lot of people promoting them so I thought they were generally viewed as a good lapping method, albeit on factory barrels. I guess not!
It is a disaster to a custom barrel! I am not a barrelmaker, but I have borescoped many that had the throat ruined with the process.

Also you didn't use any abrasive cleaner in it with a brush at all did you?
Frank,

Thanks so much. I'll wait for your call. I am happy to try whatever makes sense but dont want to deviate from what I know works without coming up with a plan from you guys.

The reamer has only cut one other chamber. I believe it is SAAMI spec with the B-line increased 0.0015 to elimite clickers. I have not used a brush with abrasives. Just lots of Tech Bore Eliminator and Bore Tech Copper, soak times and elbow grease. I did resort to a new broze brush near the end and that helped speed things up, but no abrasives with it.

What you see in that pic might not tell the whole story as to what is going on. Might have nothing to do with the barrel itself.
Frank,
Please edumacate me... how could what I see in the pic in #23 have nothing to do with the barrel?
What else could cause those visible artifacts in the groove, other than the rifling cutter?

I just got off the phone with the customer. From what he told me the marks down in the groove which as you say would be caused from the cutter or lets say the material wasn't cutting nice etc....

The cutter doesn't touch the tops of the lands.

From what the customer told me the same marks are on tops of the lands also.

If that's true....how did the marks get there? That's going to be the million dollar question!

I'm looking at one picture and don't have the barrel in front of me.

So.....

The customer and I have a game plan. He's going to do what I asked him to do. Good or bad after he shoots it he will send me the information. If we see problems....I told him not to clean the barrel. Leave it dirty and send it to me dirty so we can look at it dirty and I'll clean it myself so we can look at it before and after cleaning.

Then we will try and draw a conclusion.

Later, Frank

Welcome bud!

Do you know who made the reamer? Just curious. I can call the smith and ask as well.
