MagnetoSpeed Chronogrph

The other problem I have with a Shooting Chrony in a public range is that it appears that it can detect other fire rifles going off 5 to 30 feet off to either side shooting also down range. When that happens, it register it as an error. That is not a problem unless you shoot at the same time as the other guy in which case your shot is not registered.

I put mine on a 17Fb today and was getting all kinds of weird readings. 1600fps, then in the 2200s then 3600s. Groups were tight and no flyers. First time I've had these issues with new batteries. Going to give them a call tomorrow.

Emailed them this a.m. Heard back in a couple hours. They offered a replacement or a refund. Customer service A1 in my estimation. It worked great and on all kinds of guns, rifles, pistols, semis, with brakes, without brakes, an AR so am thinking electronics went TU.

Update: Got the replacement in a week. Everything working perfect so far. Used it on 17hm2, 17hmr rifle & pistol, 22 pistol, 6br with/without brakes. A couple things have been changed. They now have a couple different settings for rimfire & slugs. Other than that, a thoroughly easy to use and reliable unit. Hog

Has anyone used one of these with a bloop tube? Most of my rifles (prone and across-the-course guns) have them, and I'm not sure enough of how the system works to know if it would be affected by a bloop tube or not.

Yes, the Tubb ss tube on my T2K. Just took the front sight off, (left the clamping block attachment) and shot great , no problems at all.

I got mine about a month and a half ago. I quickly swapped batteries for Eveready Lithium batteries. I like the unit. I carry it in a $10 plastic handgun case.

Yet another advantage of the Magnetospeed is that it will work on an indoor range, something a conventional chronograph will not do, hence the need for an artificial light source.

And the advantages just keep coming. I put my Shooting Chrony on a table at the clubhouse with a sign, "Free to take". Don't miss it in the least.

Used mine at 900 yards on a .284 and 6br in an f-open club day. It will definitely hold 10 ring, it has been wicked running the chrony against match loads under match conditions.

I wouldn't do accuracy load development with it strapped on, but outside of that its all pluses....significant benefits for the price!

Mine is scheduled to arrive Wednesday. And I will use it Friday at the latest. I plan to use mine during load development and I don't care if POI shifts but I hope group size is about the same.

So far at 500 and 900 yards I have had to come down 1 moa when I strap on the magneto.

I will be interested in how you get on. I have decided to change my load development approach so that the magneto won't influence groups...but that is based on not much - just peace of mind. (I had completed load development before I got it, I have been using it to validate my loading decisions under match conditions).
The load was developed in winter and the magneto has been brilliant as the matches are shot in summer and I have been able to keep a track on es, sd and avg fps as temps changed without extra trips to the range.

Bill, do not waste your time working up loads with the chronograph strapped to the end of the barrel. Accuracy will change when you remove it or even if you slide it forward or backwards. If you guys do not believe it will make a difference then you must also think that barrel tuners do not work.

Just my $.02

I received my MagnetoSpeed two days ago. So far I am impressed.
I wanted to see how attaching the unit to my barrel would affect POI and group size, so I did this test today. On the left group there are two shots apart from the three others and one with the right group. Not sure, but I think my rifle is trying to tell me it has a carbon ring.
Anyway, I have heard POI shifts up but mine appears to have a slight shift downward. And groups appear to be nearly the same.
BTW, bayo was attached to the bottom of the barrel, just behind the muzzle brake. Also, groups were shot from a concrete bench using a cheap pivot bipod and a rear bag.

Erik, what do you see in the groups? Do you think I may have a carbon ring? I'm thinking there are a total of three flyers in the two groups caused by a carbon ring.

I ceramic coated the bore with hBN before the first bullet went down the tube, and shoot hBN coated bullets. And since then, just dry patches every 20 to 40 rounds. The bore has never seen any chemicals nor any kind of brushes except for a bronze brush briefly in the throat area (in case of carbon ring). Round count is currently 573.

I just received mine this week. I haven’t got to try it out yet. Does anyone know why it will not work with an air rifle? I think I heard it was due to the slow speed of the pellet, but I would like to know for sure.

It's interesting to me to see that there is only one or two guys on this thread commenting about tuners. Maybe its one of those things that is so obvious that the people that know dont get involved, but I cant see how this thing will not effect barrel harmonics. When Im shooting off bags and remove my *front sight* I feel like I need to retune. I watched with extreme fascination a guy next to me adjust a tuner last summer over the course of an entire afternoon, the difference in his targets was incredible, and you know, he's a benchrest guy shooting over four flags. He was able to repeatably dial the group in and out with the tuner, it all looked totally silly until we started talking and I started watching his targets through the scope...

Ive only been shooting an reloading for a few years and I dont know alot but it would seem to me to be a total waste of time to do load development with anything hanging on the barrel that can effect its harmonic and then remove it and expect the same results.

with all that said, this looks like an awesome tool for all the reasons mentioned, however I think there is probably some peace that needs to be found when using one for load development. Find the speed you are looking for with the thing on there, remove it, play with the charge till you find a nice group and then chrono that...

Anyhow, I havent used one and am curious about purchasing one but only posted simply because I was surprised this thread made it to four pages on this site without harmonics being the center of discussion. If I am way off base here someone please speak up, Im not trying to stir the pot so much as just scratching my head.

The guy that makes an attachment to mount this thing on a tube gun stock will be doing very well for himself. Look forward to the day when we can have one of these sitting on the bench, not attached to the gun.

Well, so far I have only tried my new Magnetospeed on a 7X57 hunting rifle. To discus POI change or group dispersal with THIS rifle at 100 yd would be foolish.

But, this morning during 5 shot groups at my clubs Monday Long range BR practice I interupted my group shooting long enough to strap on the Magnetospeed. My rifle is a 6BRX, 28" barrel with a tuner tuned at the 600yd I was shooting today.
We had an "interesting" wind day! I and the other shooters were shooting around 3" groups with a 2 1/2" now and then.

With no changes other than installing the Magnetospeed, my POI climbed exactly 1 MOA just as 6BRinNZ saw! Lowered the impact by 1 MOA and shot another 3" group to match the 3 1/2" one displaced by 1 MOA!
Now, I fully understand how tuners work and how to adjust them, but I haven't figured out the 1 MOA yet while essentially keeping the group size.

Anyway, I can surely get MV statistics while I practice!
