MagnetoSpeed Chronogrph

My very first shot thru the Magneto did not read. Bull barrel, 1" at the muzzle with a Harrels Counter Torque brake. I changed the sensitivity to '5' and it has read every shot since.
I am getting a little tired of it asking me if I want to keep the setting every time I turn it on. But that is a very minor inconvenience.

so it appears from reading this that the settings don't change the velocity of the readings, it just makes it so the unit reads more consistently for the shots?

I'll answer that with I'm not sure. On my ar with the flash hider I went down as far as it would go I think, and it gave me some numbers that were way too high so I gave up on that particular rifle. On others it seemed consistent.

Are there any updates on how the es/sd compares on the MS crony compared to regular good quality cronies?

Good quality - are you meaning pvm and oehlers (I haven't used these)? My numbers improved dramatically - simply because I get readings every time I use it. I have strapped it on for 300, 500 and 900 yard club days, to get numbers under actual match conditions - something never achievable before. Just yesterday I had 7 extra rounds left over from a 300 yard club shoot....strapped on the magneto, came down down 1 moa and away I went...no worries holding the 10 ring....the beauty here - I was able to compare loads that had been freshly seated the night before vs loads that had been seated at the correct depth for about 6 months....on target I couldn't tell the difference (based on spotter) and the es/sd numbers backed that up....no extra trip to the range to test that scenario.

The new buckle is some sort of aluminium and I am not sure if the extra weight of that would affect harmonics to a noticeable degree.....

Value for money is exceptionable in IMO ..and I cant see any compromises in the readings it gives...as mentioned I haven't compared it to an oehler or pvm.

Yes i was wondering about how its accuracy in reading velocities compared with the likes oh a PVM or Oehler. No doubt it is more convenient, but if we are checking a loads ES/SD with different primers for example and conditions are good, will the regular cronies with much wider spaced screens give more accurate results.
When conditions allow, I will check my new MS2 against my procrono.

Yep - understand - I guess implied in my post was the fact that the magneto can be used to build a large amount of empirical data with respect to es/sd as opposed to one off range sessions with relatively small samples.
Rightly or not I have assumed (in my change to the magneto) that as the magneto is the same across the primer types the margin of error applies consistently and therefore the results can be compared - however I can use the magneto to build a much larger database and make a more informed decision without impacting on my barrel life or competing time (club days).
The above assumes that I'm not trying to achieve the same numbers in the magneto as another chrony just producing relative numbers for the primer types against the magneto (hopefully that makes sense).

I will be interested to see how you get on...I have yet to figure out my load development from scratch approach with the magneto.

It seems reasonable that there would be a slight deflection toward the "bayonet". Wouldn't there be a Bernoulli effect both do the the bullet's flight and rotation that would create a lower pressure area between the bullet and the "bayonet" that would draw the bullet in that direction?

The guys that see a POI shift say it is away from the bayo. Personally, I don't see a POI shift - certainly not 1 MOA. Maybe the POI shift only occurs on thinner barrels where the bullet is closer to the bayo when the bullet passes the bayo.

Back to the basics, the Magnetospeed is attaching something to the barrel. The difference in harmonics could be anywhere from negligible to a shift, which could be perceived as a POI shift? I'd recommend using this during load work-up and temperature verification, but I'd be sure to repeat grouping data, or sight zero with and without the bayo attached to be certain. This is certainly easy enough to do, and well a few more rounds down range is better for the practice.

OK. I guess I'll need to find another theory.
