Lube for the single stage?

The broken ram pin post had me wondering.
In 1971, I bought my first Rockchucker and built an earthquake grade bench while in the AF. Still have both.

Lube frequency and cleaning tips please.

I don't ever remember doing anything other than maybe a light ram wipedown.

Mineral oil (baby oil/butchers block oil), light as possible.

Use same on all your other gun related lube requirements- from sizing brass to lubing your rifle.

Just happen to have a freshly purchased bottle. Was experimenting with knife honing stone cleaning. Thanks for the tip.

For lube I use 30 wt. motor oil (what Dillon recommends and has worked well on my 550's). Cleaning frequency when I used to deprime on my RockChucker was fairly frequent due to all the abrasive primer residue collecting on the ram. Now that I hand deprime and the press ram stays clean, just a very light coat of oil for lubrication.

A lot of folks swear by Ballistol, and I tried it once. I must have done some wrong because my press started squeaking due to it being dry.

I lightly spray my RockChucker with Rem Oil and wipe it down after every depriming session. I’m not sure if that’s right but it’s been working for me. Was thinking about trying Hobo Oil next time.

I use synthetic motor oil. The same that goes in my tractor. I used to spray it with WD-40. I still spray the primer system with WD-40 Specialist Dry Lube.

Once a year I spray my press down with carb cleaner and work the ram. Then re-oil it. I have had my Dillon 550 since 1987.

Wipe down your ram and lube it with Hobo Oil. It will surprise you at how long it lasts and how smooth the ram runs.. Put some on your finger and wipe it on the ram.

I use Birchwood Casey gun scruber to clean ram and connecting points.
And Seal1 clp to lube works great on all my moving parts. I got turned onto these products by my brother and I'm giving them
try. Complete gun care products biodegradable smells good like candy and they say you can ingest it, not going to try that part.lol15563787020775749741435288279754.jpg

If you look at the linkage there are small lubrication holes at the pivot points. I lubricate these with a small hand held grease gun with a pin nozzle using a synthetic grease. Those pivot points take all the strain. The ram shaft is cleaned pretty often and wiped down with Mobil 1.

I wipe the rams down with carb cleaner on a paper towel and now i use hobo oil on it. Lil bit goes a long ways. I used to just put imperial on the ram and redline 0wt motor oil on pivots and it worked well too

Have both a very old A2 Rockchucker and a newer RS2 , and I use Liquid Wrench Silicone Spray in the red can . It does a nice job of removing all the build-up carbon dust and primer residual from the ram and other areas . I take the mechanisms apart every couple of months and clean the bores , and pins . think it's worth it in the long run . And a added benefit is over time , you get a very light build-up of silicone filling any scratches on the ram and other moving parts .

I clean my press with Hoppes #9, and use a light grease on the pivot points and pins and a light gun oil on the ram. Works for me. My primers drop through the ram into the collector under it so I don't get the primer crud on the ram.

Soon after purchasing my Rockchucker I disassembled it, cleaned all the rotating parts as well as the ram and it's bore. I drilled oil ports in all of the necessary places so I could dribble oil into them whenever I felt it was needed.

Great idea......maybe go ahead and tap for zerks?
