Lube for new brass

I use Imperial dry lube on the bullet, not on the neck, on all brass whether it's been fired before or not. I do not have a gauge to tell me if the seating of the bullet is consistent however it feels much smoother seating. The other thing I hope to accomplish by lubing the bullet with the mica or graphite is to keep the jacket of the bullet from welding itself to the case neck. I have no proof that this little extra step actually increases accuracy but it's easy and harmless and if it helps with decreased friction then it's worth it. If not then I've only wasted a few seconds.
Shooting accurately is a lot about confidence. Doing little things to help with consistency and aid accuracy gives me confidence in my ammo. If I have confidence in my ammo, gear and abilities then I'll shoot better. Once you start missing then it's easy to second guess everything. I've seen guys get up during a stage and go to their truck to get different ammo. If you feel like you've got to change ammo during a match, let alone a stage, then you might as well pack it up and call it a day.

Graphite on the inside of the neck does 2 things:

1. It provides lubrication for the expander button on the FL sizing die, and

2. Provides lubrication for bullet insertion and seating.

On my reloading bench it did two things, but not what you stated.....

1. It made a mess in my reloading trays.

2. It made a mess on my reloading bench.

The sizing lube and Imperial sizing die wax leave a residue that have to be cleaned up, not the horrible mess left by graphite.
