Lost tools

My modus operandi is that I lose/misplace something, replace it, and then the lost item shows up.

(Or my son admits that he borrowed it, sheepishly, when he eventually gets around to returning it. I have thought about changing the locks, or putting up a signout sheet because its not ALL me! )

Ever lose a piece of equipment that you know is in the house somewhere?

First it was a modified Hornady case in 6DASHER.

I have a new bolt coming today. So this morning I look for my go-gauge. I want to be sure my headspace doesn't change with the new bolt.

Well the damn go gauge is missing worse than a 10mm socket. I have separate Tupperware containers for each caliper. They hold things like comparator bushings, neck bushings, etc that are caliber specific. But my go gauge for 6 Dasher isn't in the 6mm container.

Last I used it was installing my current barrel. So it has to be in the gun room somewhere.

I too, have spent time in your world….

Eyeglasses get me quite often. I can read without them so I’ll take them off and set them down not paying attention to where. There’s usually some cussing involved, but actually haven’t lost them yet.

two of whatever item gets lost the most is a good way to almost always having 'it' on hand. For me it's a 6 inch Starrrett scale , actually, two of them. I find the lost one right after I missplace the second! Ona good day, just before.

Years ago I downsized from a 450 long bed service truck to a 150… company logic. Anyway I had a wad of specialty tools that came off the truck and went into my shop.

Fast forward 7-8 years; I’d retired and was going through my shop consolidating and liquidating. Son of a ____ I found those tools. Of course I’d already replaced them.

Most of my lost tools I know where they are. In David Jones locker! I used to work on boats, and when anything went in the drink they were usually not worth the hassle to fish them out. That's why I had Craftsman, not Snap-On.

I once lost my magnetic LED light that I use on the Bridgeport quill.

Found it under the mower deck, still lit, after my wife mowed the lawn.

I had used it to sharpen blades, lowered the deck, and forgot all about it....until I used the mill ....oh chit.

Pretty strong magnet...

I usually managed to keep track of my tools.
Then my son became a teenager and starting "borrowing" my tools.
If I couldn't find what I was looking for in my toolbox..........
I would start driving around the yard on my lawnmower.
I generally found them except when they went flying into the woods.

I can remember many times working on an estate in PB climbing down a ladder or a scaffold and walking several hundred yards to my truck and it took me 30 seconds to figure out what tool I had come out to the truck for.
