Lost tools

I bought a nice old Husquevarna 243 last year. Worked up a good load for it and put it away. I’m going on a hog hunt next week and thought I’d use it. I’ve looked thru every safe twice and haven’t found it. Maybe three times will be the charm?

I’m getting better with tools and organization but I still have a long ways to go. Right now the man cave needs a serious organization, something that happens every 2-3 weeks. I’ll organize it, put everything back where it goes and resolve to do better, in three weeks I’ll start all over. I’m pretty good at knowing where things are but it drives me nuts when I can’t find something, I hav3 multiples of items I use a lot, like calipers.


I’ve always admired the guy who has spotless shop with tools that get put back every time a project finishes or at the end of the day. I’m trying to get there but I have a long ways to go.

Ever lose a piece of equipment that you know is in the house somewhere?

First it was a modified Hornady case in 6DASHER.

I have a new bolt coming today. So this morning I look for my go-gauge. I want to be sure my headspace doesn't change with the new bolt.

Well the damn go gauge is missing worse than a 10mm socket. I have separate Tupperware containers for each caliper. They hold things like comparator bushings, neck bushings, etc that are caliber specific. But my go gauge for 6 Dasher isn't in the 6mm container.

Last I used it was installing my current barrel. So it has to be in the gun room somewhere.

My son loves to tell me, "Dad, you've got Old Timers Disease..."

Someone broke in and stole it and left everything else. Many years ago, my wife claimed that someone broke in and stole 1/2 of a sausage that she did not eat. Just to be tricky, they left the checkbook and cash that were nearby.

When I retired I went through my old “catchall shop”, and moved 99% of the tools I found to my “newer try to keep it organized” shop.

Surprised at the amount of drill bits I found. So many I had to use a kitchen drawer utensil holder, and organize them roughly by diameter and length.
