looking for loads info

Hi guys!

I'm new here and trying to find the info regarding best loads for savage 12fv .223 1:9 twist. Currently I shoot bergers 70vld and they do a good job, 1/2moa at 100m, and ~1moa at 500m (if there is no wind of course :) ). But nothing is perfect and I decided to try another bullets, currently I'm waiting for sierra match king 69gr, hornady a-max 75gr and lapua scenar 69gr. The problem is that unfortunately we have no such a variety of powders here (I'm from Ukraine) and currently the only powder available for me is Sunar 5.56 (russian powder similar to VV 130). That's why existing loads won't work for me, so I need to know which muzzle velocity and bullet jump worked best for your loads with these bullets in your savages :) For example, my best load for bergers gives 900m/s (2952 fps) and jump is 0.004.

Thanks

In my Savage LRPV 223 1 in 9 twist. I have found that the 69gr Sierra Match King the very best bullet. I don't know anything about the powder you are using. My load is 25.0 Winchester 748 Federal 205 Match primer bullet just touching lands the MV is 2890 fps at 15ft I also have had very good results with the 73gr Berger bullets they seem to shoot better than the 70gr Bergers all of these shoot in the mid .2's the 69gr Sierra seem to do a little better most of the time. I hope this information is useful.

Thanks, will try it, unfortunately, midway messed my order and I got sierra 77grain instead of 69 :( Did you try lapua scenars?

SergNG: You may luck out, (hope so), but I doubt the 77 gr. will stabilize in your 9 twist. I limit my 9 twists ( 4 different chamberings) to 69 & 70 gr., anything heavier will begin to open up. Can't tell 'til you try them, so just load up a few to test.

762willdo; You are fortunate. The label on my boxes of 77 gr. Sierra #1477 MatchKings says, 7"-8" twist bbls. only", in red letters.

Try the 75 grain A-Max with either Varget or RE-15. I'm shooting that bullet in my SS fluted 1/9 with VG accuracy. YMMV

A friend of mine has had good results with the 77gr Sierra match Kings in his Savage 223 with 1 in 9 twist his load is 25.2 BLC-2 around 3/8" 5shot groups. It shot about 3/4" in my 223 LRPV not what I was looking for in fact it was the worst of everything I have shot. Give it a try it might work in yours.

55 to 60 grain .22 Centerfire fare works well in 1-in-9" twisters. Reaching out to 70 plus grainers may or may not be the best fare. Originally, the military selected 55 grain fare, but due to increasing rapid twist they were FORCED to find heavier fare. Working BACKWARD, the military sought to find suitable bullet weights to make, hopefully, .308 Winchester replacements. Now at 77 grains in hyper-twist rifling, the military seems stiffled to do anymore. GO BACK to the solid performance of 1-in-12" rifling with 55-60 grain bullets for which made the .223 great. Perfect the bullet and don't worry about bullet grain weight. Cliffy
