Looking for load data. H5010, H870 and AA8700

Looking for load data for these powders to duplicate BP loads in 45-70. Also like to use it in 7mm mag and 30-06. Anyone with older manuals care to post the data in them for these calibers. Also the pressure for 45-70 since I’m looking to duplicate BP cast bullet loads in it

I’d shoot either 4198 or 4895 in the 45-70 even when duplicating the black powder loads. Slower powders at reduced charges are not IMO the way to go.

The 7 mag with heavy bullets would probably be the only mentioned one that I’d consider using these slow powders with....

These powders are the type you would use in cartridges like the 30/378 Wea 7mm RUM etc. Way to slow for the 30/06. Another matter is when you use these powders at reduced pressure they are very fouling espically the ball ones for carbon.

I have Hodgdon #27 manual from the late 1990's, they have no published 45-70 or 30-06 loads.

7mm RM has numerous applications for H870, they only give a maximum charge. They use 80 grains as the max for 150gr, 160gr, 162gr, and 170gr bullets. 77gr is the max for 175gr. I looked for any notes on reducing the H870 loads and couldn't find any.

I would call Hodgdon at this point if you need more info.

Just because you got data doesn't mean its a good powder. They are pretty slow for the 270 and 30-06. Lots of new better powders were relaeased since these. Matt

Yes I know they won’t be the best. Just looking for something to plink with. Have a bunch of pull down bullets in 30 cal to play with

I agree there are much better suited powders.
However, H-870 is very inexpensive and readily available.
I've used it in 7 mag and 140gr Noslers with fantastic results.
The only reason I ever switched from it is because my dad bought a different powder to try and it also worked well with other calibers we had on hand.
Otherwise, I'd still be using it.

Yes, the canister-grade stuff has been gone for some time, but surplus WC-870 is readily available (and inexpensive!) and is pretty much the same stuff. One can expect more lot-to-lot variation than with canister-grade powders but the surplus stuff is absolutely useful in many applications. I use it myself in my 7mm Rem Mag and .25-'06 to very good effect.

It's not advisable . Slow powders are not to be substituted . I've got manuals back to the 60s and no listings for any cases you listed .

I have a Hodgdon #20 and it gives only one load for 30-06 starting at 180 gr. bullet. It is 64 gr. H870 for the 180 and 200. 63 gr. for the 220. Pressures given are 36,600, 41,200 and 42,300 respectively. Please note that this powder is known to vary greatly by lot number. So I wouldn't trust much from a manual from the late 60's. There is NO info for 45-70. If I were to load this, I would start 10% below the load listed in the Hodgdon manual. I doubt you could get BP pressures in the 45-70 using this. JMTC.
