Looking for Camp Perry info

nwflycaster: Yes, they really are that bad. Nothing more than a plywood, particle board "shelter" sitting on a concrete slab.

Sitting out in the middle of an open field, in July & August, in Ohio, the temps in the huts will be very high. Plug-in electric outlets are available, so some bring a portable window air conditioner.

My biggest problem with "sleeping" ( or rather trying to), was the drunks returning at 2am, slamming doors, talking loudly, and generally acting like drunks.

My last times there, I had an off post motel room reserved. Made the whole trip much more enjoyable, and I was actually able to sleep at night, in preperation for the next day's match's.

If you would be able to get accomidations in one of the newer units it would be closer to that of a motel room, a big jump up from a tent, and a whole 'nuther world from the huts.

When I was shooting there in the '90's, the packets described the huts as Austere. I looked it up for you.

aus·tere/ôˈsti(ə)r/
Adjective:

(of living conditions or a way of life) Having no comforts or luxuries; harsh or ascetic.

Take a sheet of plywood 1/2 or 3/4" the size of the military bunks, or you'll be sleeping on the floor( spring sag). I took a sleeping bag that I placed on top of the mattress, and put my sheets inside. Take your own pillow. You'll need screw-in fuses, for the outside exposed fuse block. Take 15-20-25-30 amp so you'll have a variety. There is one light bulb in the center of the ceiling. Take a few spare bulbs. I took a box fan, cooler, card table, clothes line and clothes hangars, duct tape. Get the idea. The huts were made and used to house German WW II POW's in.

Believe it or not, I had some of the best times of my life there. You'll meet shooters from all over the world. Take money and plastic, lots of great stuff to spend your money on.

You can PM me.

I have never been to Perry for Rifle. But I have been many many times for pistol. People used to tell me, "You haven't experienced Perry until you've stayed in the HUTS!". Well, let me tell you something. After seeing the HUTS for the first time, I decided that I personally enjoy staying in a condo...where I don't have to worry about flooding, fuses, flies, frogs, or any of the other "F's" that come wandering through at 02:00! LOL!

That being said, I've had some of the best times of my life hanging out with friends and clients in and around the huts, modules and RV Park! A couple of years ago they put new electrical in many of them. Before that you just about couldn't use an AC unit in many of them. The main thing is to have fun!

Another note to all of you fellow Perry goers this year. I was told by someone there that they WILL NOT HAVE modules this year. They are closing them all down and will be tearing them to the ground due to some issues with mold. Not sure about the validity of this but if it is true it is unfortunate as they were nice places to stay and hang out.

I asked about the modules mentioned above and they said they are indeed not available anymore.

From what I am hearing I think I will be sacrificeng my deposit and looking for a nearby hotel or something.

Another option is the barracks, they built new ones, and some of the shooters stayed in them last year and said they were real nice. Four beds to a room, and air conditioned. Same price as the huts.

Have stayed in the huts many times, but since they built the RV park, I have been staying there. Three years ago I stayed in the double letter huts on the SE side, these are the worse huts, most are condemmed now, real rough on the outside, but they upgraded the electrical, cleaned and painted the inside, it wasnt bad at all. Here is a couple pics:

inside not so bad, I had a hut to myself, the bunks on the other side were better, so I used the ones you see for putting my stuff.

Well, after what was said upon booking a hut and the comments posted here, I have been officially scared out of a hut. I booked another room at a nearby motel. Thanks everyone for you input.

With 2500 road miles I've decided to fly and rent a car, its probably cheaper than 2 nights hotel and meals each way anyway.

I still need to book a flight but cannot do that until I can see a schedule for the matches so I know when to be there for the team events, if I can even get hooked up on one. Aren't they fired the day before the individual events? Being as its my first trip to Perry I dont know the ropes yet.

Does anyone have their program and entry packets yet?

Thanks Ken that calendar is exactly what I needed.
Room - check, flight - check, car rental - check, now I'm only needing a team to shoot with. Anyone else from Washington going?

Does anyone out there in shooterland have any info on how to reserve a hut for service rifle week at Camp Perry?

Thanks for the info, but the Club House is booked. I was hoping someone would realize they reserved more huts than their team needs and looking to sublet.

Tell ya what I have done in the past is just show up and walk up and down the huts till I found one or two guys that wouldn't mind another to hang out and help reduce their cost on the hut!

Usually everything is booked by state ass., volunteers, etc. before individule competitors are allowed to book. Just call once a week and check if there is a cancellation. The last three years I called a week before the matches, and all they asked was "what do you want, module, hut, barracks, etc" They get lots of cancelations the week before. Many don't cancel, you will drive around seeing lots of empty everything. One year I wasn't sure until the day before the matches that I could go, I called and got the "whatever you want". I wouldn't worry about not getting a bunk, I hope thats not "famous last words".....

I called a week ago to check and got a spot in the RV park that someone just cancelled. Just check in once in a while, something will open up.

I have both a hut and a hotel room booked at this point. I'm going to stick with the hotel room if anyone wants my hut reservation for the week checking in on the 4th and checking out the 11th let me know and I'll figure out how to transfer it.

Resurrecting an old thread..... My NRA entry packet arrived today. I thought maybe they forgot me, lol. Still a lot of time, but I thought last year they came earlier.

Any one else get there's yet?

Spoke to Dennis Willing today, he advised that the packets that are going out right now were the ones that were from signing up online. Those that have called are next and should be going out early this week.
