Final Camp Perry F class results - Anywhere?

KT, glad to see you cleaned up your act!

As for F-Class shooters, I have nothing against them at all! The original reason behind it was to allow old shooters to continue to be able to shoot whom had a hard time being able to see with the irons aanymore. Yeah it is growin and I am not agaonst that at all, but you act like it is the be all is all. It's your thing and I understand that and that is cool. I am open to all forms of competition shooting. Sling, XTC, IDPA, USPSA, shotgun, smallbore, tacti-cool matches, palma, benchrest and many others, they all have there place! Just remember that the Nationals is that and it is old school and you know that old school is hard to change. There is some resentment between the NRA and some of the talking heads of F-Class the way I see it. I was surprised to see them invite F-Class shooters come to the Nationals. But was in the same token very glad of it!

I have shot F/TR and like it and have always said that if I get to the point I can not shoot the sling gun, then I would do F/TR but not open.

How about opening up and be more open to all forms of shooting and not just one particular thing! We need participation for it all!

No resentment at all from me toward sling shooters. I respect that what sling and irons guys do is hard. What I do see is real resentment toward F class from some sling shooters. I don't count you in that group. There was a general feel that the NRA took an "well if we have to" approach to F class at Perry. Registration information and the number to be allowed was vague or non-existant, results weren't posted anywhere during the match, there was confusion as to whether there was going to be an aggregate, and as far as I can tell there isn't one.

I'm not closed to other forms of shooting. I'm trying to figure out how to free up time for doing service rifle next yr; the unknown distance tactical stuff is interesting; I used to shoot USPSA/IPSC and would consider it again if I had the time. I recognize that I am obsessive and the things I do I tend to go "all in" with them so I'm really limited to one competitive hobby at a time. We don't do tactical shooting at ORSA; if we did I'd be all over it. I love hunting and it is a fact that that the skills I hone in F-TR make me a better hunter, and I don't mean just the shooting, but also understanding ballistics and reloading.

No, I've got nothing against sling shooters. I've got no interest in shooting long range with irons, but that is my choice, my interest. From the other perspective F class shooters are the new kids and there are sling and irons guys who not only don't have any interest in what we do, but they also don't want us on the same field with them.

After making friends with a guy that shoots Fclass now but started out shooting sling before I was old enough to hold a gun to my shoulder. His take on things is that there is a certain amount of ethics and manners that come with shooting. While a lot of us do carry those traits, there are those out there that have put a bad taste in the sling shooters mouth. My experience has been follow the code of ethics and manners of the sling shooters and they will respect you and treat you with the same respect as they treat their own.

I agree that you need to be respectful of others way of doing things, then again there are those who just won't like it because it is different. Just a few of the "conflicts" I've personally be exposed to in pursuit of my various hobbies:

Sailing vs Powerboats
Sailing Dinghies vs keel boats
Harley vs pretty much anything
BMW knows they are better
Sport bike riders vs Cruisers
Montana rifles vs anything ending in an "i"
Upright bows vs X bows
Inline muzzle loaders vs percussion caps (or heaven forbid someone who hunts with a rock attached to his rifle)
Black vs smokeless


There are more, but the point is that in every one of those there is always someone on one side or the other who absolutely cannot will not understand that what someone else does that is different is not in some was less than what they do. This is no different.

I think you are spot on! There are those hard headed not going to except anything other than my way... guys out there. I should have included in my above post that most Sling shooters will be respectful if you treat them that way. It's a two way street.

I guess I have gotten to a point now days that I'm not going to allow those few bad apples weather it be Fclass or Sling shooters spoil my day or fun!

one thing that I have seen many times, which kinda bothers a lot of sling shooters, is during pit chaange, is to see F-Class shooters bring their rifle to the line, put it on the bags and start lining it up on the target, while ppl are moving to and from the pits. Sling shooters don't usually this bad habbit. Oh you may see one or two prop the rifle on their stool or lay it on the ground near their firing point. But most times you will see them wait till they have been called to the line and then they do not start "getting into the gun" till either prep time or block time is started. A lot of shooters that shoot F-Class forget, or fail to understand that prep time is the time to start lining that rifle up with your target.

But your right, there are some bad apples in every form of sport.

Yikes Froggy!

Nobody, I mean NOBODY! should be on the line with a rifle when the pits aren't sealed. If you have shooters that can't figure this one out all by themselves, you'll probably need to start doing things the way we do in the NW. The line officer demands that all firearms be removed from the firing line before openning the pits, and monitors to make certain that nobody brings a firearm to the line until they are told to do so.

We also hold everyone to the no handling standard behind the line. No looking through scopes, adjusting slings, shouldering stocks, etc.

Yeah, if you have F-classers that are doing stuff like that, I can see why people don't want them around, but why not just teach them the right way to do stuff? Perhaps it would be a good idea to have an experienced shooter give new shooters (regardless of class) a quick lesson on how the match is conducted and what is expected of them. I bet you know exactly who is new at any given match because you haven't seen them before...

Oh I have brought it up when I have seen it, most are thankfull for me telling them about it, a couple got mad at me about it and one of them later came to me and appologized for their actions. A lot of times it has happened when the line director has had to step over to the club house to take care of personal biz. Most of the guyys that come to the matches now a days, knows the routine. But still, it will happen from time to time.
