Best I could find under 200. Before my old gunsmith passed away he gave me his old Hart rest. They are pretty nice if you can find one used

Take a look at the Caldwell Rock BR. It incorporates an adjustable windage function. Based on the universal front bag, I not sure what type of rifle you would be using but I started out with one of these and soon adapted the top for an Edgewood 3" bag to accommodate an F open rig front end. Previous to the Fopen rig, I used it for zero and testing sniper platforms, a Savage 12 LRP and an Armalite AR50A1. Midway UISA has them on sale now for $99.
I'll agree with getting a Caldwell Rock for getting started and
general use. Quite a few are used at our ranges. I would
also suggest logging onto grizzly.com and looking up the
Bald Eagle rests. Some models are still in old inventory,
and some get heavily discounted. You'll still see some form
of the Bald Eagle's at competitions.

For the money you want to spend a Bald Eagle with the "windage" top. Then when your budget allows, upgrade the top to a Shadetree "joystick".
The Big 50 has a large foot print. It's more meant to be
used prone. On the bench, you''ll be fine if your situated
more behind the gun. If seated to the side of the stock,
you'll find your self leaning hard over to get your eye on
the scope. I have the aluminum model but with windage.
I did add a steel plate to the under side, and Butch sent me
one of his Shade Trees......You will want some form of
windage sooner or later. If it were me, and for that price,
I'd snag the Big 50 and shorten the legs. And don't forget
the bag. They generally don't come with one.
One other thing.....Check or post new for a used Bald Eagle

The Caldwell Rock BR rest is a good starter. You can pick one up brand new for $100. Here are the modifications I made to mine:
- Replaced the rear leveling screw with a Sinclair speed screw.
- Replaced the front stop.
- Added a pair of bag clamps.
- Made a new bushing for the main screw to tighten the fit.
- Made new clamp screws for the main screw and the gross elevation screw.

I like the front stop.
Have issues with the stock front stop on my Caldwell Rock. Seems to sit too low.

Just a little bit more money, you can get a Cowan. Made in USA by a machine shop class and all proceeds go back into the class for materials, scholarships, etc.
Got this Protektor aluminum,no windage top.... along with their cordura bags,as a two prong "attack".
First was weight and simplicity. It is half the weight of my heavy custom setup. Which found me not using. That's when I went with a cheap Caldwell X bag and their RR bag. Used that setup to the limits of it's design... few complaints but X bags are very useful around the farm,shooting off truck and tractor hoods.
The aluminum Protektor is light,and serves nicely as an intermediate rest. Very close to the speed of X bags,from a grab N go standpoint.
The second "prong" was materials. I often shoot in the rain. The heavy rest has a bunch of steel,"in the white".... takes way too long to clean/lube after use in wet conditions. The X bags are problematic here too,albeit in a slightly different way. The new Protektor has been working out nice in wet conditions. Just not worth obsessing over from a price point,and yes,would buy another.
Cast bullet 7-08 rig. Loves 130's @ starting JB book loads with Varget.
