Looking for a vault door.

A friend of mine is building a new home and he wants to put a vault door in the basement. What is the most economical door available ? Have checked a few safe companies but they are little more than he is wanting to spend.

Just my opinion, but if something is worth building a vault to protect, looking for the cheapest door is not a good idea. Fill the walls and ceiling with rebar and get a good door with a high rating. Otherwise, just buy a couple of large, quality gun safes and redhead them to the slab.

Generally a decent door will cost more than just a decent 30/35 safe, then you need to get installed. Its one of the many "That dont seem right" scenarios of life..

Google vault doors, safe rooms, etc..

Get a door that opens to the inside. Some insurance companies offer discounts to homeowners with a "safe room" or storm shelter. One of the stipulations is the door opening to the inside so that in the event of the house falling in around you, you wouldn't be trapped in by the debris keeping the door from being opened.

cz, talk to your banker about a vault door provider, also close to your local area in tulsa --- two companies build the large walk-in type vault doors, ft. nox is one , can't recall the other. take care Craig

Take a look at Smith Security's website. Not the cheapest, but very good stuff. Also, as mentioned, get one that swings IN. costs just a bit more but well worth it for a lot of reason. And, if you get a good one, NOONE is going thru the door...the walls, ceiling and floor then become the weak points. ;)
