Vault Room/Safe Room

I had been shopping for a free standing, and came upon Sturdy. Seem like a very good brand. They make vault door as well. I have not bought anything yet, so no first hand experience right now.

When I built my house I had a couple extra walls poured in the basement. Specd out a Sturdy Vault door to my needs. I'd do it again in a heartbeat

I know this is an old thread coming back from the dead but everytime I see one like this I just have to add the importance of a home security system.... It's hard to break into things when you only have about 30 seconds before the police are called.... Their response time is how long they will have to break into your safe etc.... You also get the added benefit of it when you're sleeping and even get a break on your home owners insurance.... Just in my opinion don't put the little signs out in your yard telling someone what to bring to defeat it...

When you build a vault room in a new house everybody that works on the house knows you have it and something to protect. They do not need to break into it, they force you to open it for them.

Old bank vault doors are surprisingly affordable. Make sure you get the framework for around it or you are looking at another $500 or more from a local fabricating shop

No matter what size you make your gun room it will not be large enough

A friend of mine built his dream home a while back. A very interesting fellow who had collected and restored many fine antique cars and guns. One of the things he was able to find in his collecting was a pristine WW1 era bank vault door. When building his new home he used the vault door in the wall of his basement that opened into a huge concrete walled room under his garage. A safe place for some of his treasured class 3 firearms, curios and relics. Like a very nice Vickers Machine gun in .303 British. Sadly he was lost to cancer not long after completion.

Not one mention of human waste disposal. If it is a tornado shelter as well, you could be in there for some time. Very different if you have a place to pee.
