Did you buy a long range rifle and now realize that most ranges only offer you a distance of 100 yards to shoot it?
Do you find yourself shooting your target and the person next to you is shooting a pistol at the same distance?
Do you want to sharpen your shooting skills and see what your rifle can really do?
If your answer is yes to any of the above questions and you don't mind a drive into the Sacramento area, there is a solution for you. The Sacramento Valley Shooting Center, also known as the Folsom Shooting Club, located at 15501 Meiss Road, Sloughhouse, California, (just outside of Sacramento) is the place for you.
This may read like an advertisement from the facility but it's not, this message comes from the Sloughhouse Long Range Benchrest Club who allows shooting enthusiast like yourself to shoot at distances up to 1000 yards at our practice sessions and matches. Do you have to be a member of the Benchrest Shooting Club to shoot with us and are there membership fees to be eligible? The answer to both of those questions is NO, you don't have to be a member of our club and we don't charge a membership fee to our members.
The next statement shooters typically make is " I don't want to be a Benchrest Shooter", and our response to that statement is.......you don't have to shoot a benchrest rifle, or shoot from a bench to shoot with us!
Are you surprised? Don't be, because we allow people like yourself to shoot their long range rifles during our weekly practice sessions and during our matches without directly competing against the benchrest shooters. If you choose to shoot from a bench you can, or you can shoot from a prone position. You don't have to shoot using a typical rest manufactured for benchrest rifles, you can use a bi-pod, and a front and rear bag combination it's your choice. There are limitations on the caliber rifle used on the range, and no you can't shoot from a kneeling position or running, but prone shooting is allowed.
Our experience tells us that many gun enthusiast have spent thousands of dollars on rifles that are advertised as long distance rifles yet the rifle has never been shot further than you can throw a rock, and we assume that's not why you bought that type of rifle. Some shooters have shot steel targets out to 500 meters but that doesn't measure the accuracy and precision of your rifle or the custom loads if you load your own ammo. Many shooters have spent thousands of dollars on their rifles but really can't enjoy the purpose of the rifles intended use which is long range shooting because of range yardage limitations.
Why do we allow and encourage shooters to share our range with us? We're not just benchrest shooters, many of our members shoot and compete in a variety of competitions and just have a genuine love for SAFE competitive shooting.
So if you're ready to test your rifle at longer distances, feel free to contact us with more questions, we'll be glad to share our range with you if possible. Feel free to send us a PM linked to this message.
