Looking for a new case trimmer

I've done the search and was onboard with getting the new RCBS/Henderson case trimmer (I've got a $500 RCBS voucher to use) until I see that it doesn't do 17 and 20 caliber brass. Primarily looking for something to do volume 17 Rem, 204, 20VT, 20 Practical, 22-250 and 220 Swift mostly. Prairie dog shooting, not competition shooting. The primary appeal to the RCBS was due to the voucher. Hornady has the same issue, I really don't want to spend $900ish for the Henderson and Giraud nickels and dimes you to death. Frankford looks like an option. What am I missing? Thanks

I've had a Forster case trimmer for decades, but it only did OAL, and I had the neck turning attachment. But with that base to start with. I added their 3-in-1 trimmers for each caliber and I can do about 200 cases an hour.

Go with the real Henderson or Giraud..you won’t regret it. I owned both..Giraud is cheaper ($) but is a quality tool that is faster than the Henderson in use.I owned a Giraud to close to 25 years..very smooth, quiet running and very reliable..never has an issues. Buddies owning them…experienced the same, use and forget tool. No hassles.

The Henderson - if you like the best quality tool..this is it.

As for the new RCBS..time will tell but since it work on the same principles than the Henderson..the Giraud will remain the king for cost, speed and easy use.

Lyman Power units are not bad and the price is nice.
Like a lot of Tools you need to learn the driver rules.........

I had two Garey's over the years and still have Foster with all the add the extras .

Thanks for the input. I'm going to try a Lyman and see if that works. If it doesn't, will be looking for something else. I have a 223 Giraud three way trimmer but I don't want to deal with a drill or rigging up a motor. Used it a bunch but had too much 223/5.56 brass to process. Had a guy do about 8k pieces of 223/5.56 brass on a Dillon case processor. A lot less pain for the money.

Might want to take a look at the RCBS Trim-Pro II , with the three-way cutter head , since you have a voucher . I've had one for about four years now , and love it . Yeah it's manual , and once it's set , it cranks cases out , holding a + or - .001 all day long .

I use the Giraud 3-way trimmer that fits in a drill or drill press, if you already have a power source like a drill press? that's what I use, I purchased a drill press from Harbor freight, $60 bucks when I bought it, another $120 for the Giraud trimmer head, works well and precise, if I want to be super picky I use my L.E. Wilson deluxe with a power adaptor, so I don't have to hand crank to trim, either way if you want precision this is the best route, the Giraud is a bit faster, JMO

Been using an Old Lyman Power Trimmer with a carbide cutter, got back in the1960's,have trimmed a Wad, BooKoo cases, use it for 204 ruger,,223,6 creed, 6.5/284,& 6 BRA, cases are usually .001 to .0015, still running strong. That is Why Lyman stopped making it, Lasted too long, also use a RCBS Power trimmer[3 way ]

What am I missing? the RCBS trimmer is built by Henderson. Use the RCBS certificate for the trimmer and buy the 17 and 20 caliber heads from Henderson for use in the RCBS trimmer.

I seem to get chatter marks (probably not detrimental to accuracy) on my brass when I tried a Forster three-way trimmer on multiple occasions. I ended up going back to the Redding case trimmer each time. I've ordered a Giraud that should show up this month. I hope Giraud is everything it's hyped to be.

I have the Henderson VIII, I believe it is - bought directly from Henderson about two years ago. I bought extra cutters for .17 and .20 caliber and use it often to trim my .20 Practical brass. That is no inconsequential limitation for a lot of varmint shooters if it doesn't do at least .17 and .20 cal. You might be able to pick up a Henderson used on this site as some folks don't care about those small calibers.

I have been using the frankfurt arsenal for about 3 years now and just recently switched to the Henderson.... Best decision ever. I save so much time and get great results. There are some minor things that bother me about the Henderson but just my personal preferences.

I bought the Giraud trimmer with spare cutters (1 set for 6bra, 1 set for 6XC and a blank case holder that I can use for whichever other calibre and have it reamed out). Excellent quality and once set up gives excellent results. Worth the money in my opinion. You pay your money and make your choice!

An added note on the Lyman. As in all cutters, the cutting blades are very sharp...Run it at full speed to avoid an abrupt grab of the case by the cutter.
