Lone Wolf Stocks

Where do I begin? DO NOT BUY FROM Lone Wolf!!! Upon seeing the review of a shooter who shot a world record at 1K using a Lone Wolf and seeing a review on this site, I called Lone Wolf. We talked at length about what I wanted, color, butt pad, inletting for Rem. 700 LA, Kevlar, etc. I really went all the way, just over $400)on what I was assured would be a first rate, good looking stock that would be bedded and require no painting or serious machine work. When the stock arrived, I couldn't wait to see it. My anticipation turned to horror! This thing was the biggest piece of sh*t I had ever seen! None of the "flats" were close to flat. There were so many voids, bubbles and chips that the stock looked like a sponge. A call to Lone Wolf confirmed my worst suspicion, I just got screwed big time. The "person" who had been so helpful before was now telling me that I had ordered a "blank" and that was the way a blank looked. Sorry but they wouldn't make it right or take it back. After a year of sitting in a corner at my 'smiths, we finally got the nerve to bed my new 6.5-284 into it. So it was ugly, we could still make it work. After a couple of hours truing everything up, we found center on the already drilled action holes and enlarged them for pillars. The front pillar was installed on the action and dropped in the stock. It didn't quite fit. Well it was ordered for a Rem 700 LA and all indications were that it was inletted for one. Close examination shows that the hole Lone Wolf put for the front action screw was 1/2 inch too far back. Also the recoil lug was cut in the wrong position. My 'smith and I are both determined to make it look right but it should not have been this way. I am putting this out now in the hope that I will save someone else the misery this thing has caused me.

Thanks a lot for the info. I had talked to him at one time or another about the possibilities of a stock. Glad I never went with it. Makes me wonder the misery I could have been being up in Canada........????????

I was looking for stocks last yr for a M70 match rifle, note my handle; I'm left-handed). not many places even pretended to offer Lh; they did. I looked over the web sight,; no price for what I wanted . So I e-mailed describing my desires and asked for a price list. I got an e-mail back w/ a basic price list, but not LH in model I was interested in " price on request " . UH, I DID REQUEST. I never followed up. Neither did they....

I got a really nice WALNUT laminated stock from Mcgee competition stocks, walnut wood, not just color!). Just what ordered- very happy with it.

humm...

I heard he was first rate guy. Of course this was sending him your action and he builds it up around it.

This is from a very reputable smith as well.

I guess everyone has a bad run or problem at one time or another!

RHINOUT!

I was interested in the Lone Wolf Stocks as well but my Smith says he will not work on them. That being the case and after further research I have found that I am glad I did not get one. Thanks for the heads up!!

Slowpoke -- would you mind asking your cousin to return my call?

seems he is too busy to call me back about a stock... :,

BOY I'M GOING TO GET BLASTED FOR THIS. But the same thing happened to me with a Shehane stock that I used for a $300 tomato stake and will NEVER buy another. I have been using stocks from Richards Custom in Va. Art

Art is rite ....anybody can turn out something wrong once in a while ....we are all human and who would want it anyother way!!! I was talking to a gun builder a while bak and he was using a lot of Bill's stocks and made the remark that he had never seen stocks so straight and perfect as Bill's...he was putting tracking rails on the fore-end and butt stocks ...and said they were straight and square and plum etc etc....most of anybodys stocks are near perfect in this day and age...but once in a while ..ooooppppppppssssss...happens...Anyone that knows me knows of my loyalty to Stolle/Kelbly actions and I have swithched to Kelbly stocks exclusively and have installed 8 of em in the last yr or so and they are "pretty good"!!! ...I got one from them that was rough inletted for a long instead of short 700....and to this day I dont know if I asked for the wrong thing or they heard me wrong or the wrong button was pushed on the CNC to do the milling????? BUT,,,I do know that they made it right in a instant and never batted an eye...you cant beat working and dealing with people like that ...and PS,,,Bill Shehane will make stuff rite also...there are no better or more honest people on the face of this lil' planet than shooters and shooters who make the parts and pieces for our toys...we just all have to stand up realize how difficult it is to ask for perfection and want it "OVER-NITED" to our doorstep...Roger

I have a Shehane Tracker in Rutland on my 6 Dasher. It was not perfect, I expect a wood stock to maybe have a little warp. After all go find straight lumber at Lowe's) but it was bought as a blank. I knew that up front and accepted having to do some extra work to make it fit up and look right. I have heard nothing but good things about the Kelbley stocks and will try them for my next stock. Also, a friend got a stock from Bruce Baer that turned out very nice. I have never dealt with anyone, until Lone Wolf) in the gun biz who would not do all they could to please the customer, especially when something was as bad as this one. That is what chapped me so bad. They knew they sent me a piece of sh*t and didn't care!

But you had your stocks had the screw holes drilled of center at a angle how can you fix that. That will show on a finished stock.
Or you will have a stock that looks nothing like what you want for $300. I will buy nothing unless I can see it first. Art
